Parts and Things - How we got started

After retiring in 2006 I started out by selling extra parts that I had accumlated from different projects threw the years. Most of my friends are computer challenged so they started asking can you sell this for me or that for me. So I did an Parts and Things came into being. I did this for awhile and after a time we all ran out of stuff in our garages at least stuff that we wanted to sell anyway.

Now myself and a couple of buddies started looking for bargins at swap meets. We buy this or that or maybe a box full of stuff and I'd sell it on eBay. One day we found an auction for an old auto parts store that had closed in 1987 and had been just sitting there for 20 years, We bought several shelves of items and started selling those on eBay. Well some sold and some didn't, if you sell then you probably know each time you list something on eBay the listing fees eat into your profit. So I started looking for someplace else to sell our vintage parts. I found eBid and looked around some checked the forums and tried a 90 day seller+ (Platnuim) at the time. Listed a bunch of stuff and sold a few things. A couple of weeks ago they had a 1/2 price special on Lifetime memberships so I went for that. I would have spent that money anyway giving the site a chance.

eBid is not like eBay and if you think it is you will be greatly disappointed. eBay has thousands upon thousands of users/buyers on the site everyday and they will stumble upon your items if your lucky. at eBid you have to do some self promotion so that others know where your are at and what you are selling. Think of it this way eBay is located in the mall and thousands of people walk by everyday. eBid is located on the nieghborhood street and the foot traffic is much less. So what do you do open a store in the mall and pay the higher rent and get the traffic walking buy or choose the cheaper rent place in the niebhorhood and use the extra money to promote your store to the people that are looking for your goods? We choose option 2 for our store so it's at eBid and we also have a store at eCrater.

So that is basicly how we involved into Parts and Things Vintage Auto Parts, we still sell some items on consignment but not as many as we did in the begining.
