There are many different types of vegetarian diets that you may choose to take part in, and it can be difficult to understand all of them since there are so many of them out there. One specific type of vegetarian diet is known as fruitarianism. As the name implies, fruitarianists work toward having diets that completely consistent of fruits of plants and trees.Fruitarianists choose to eat only fruits that don't kill the plant that they are created by when plucked in order to decrease the amount of life that is lost due to an individual's diet. Some people choose to become fruitarian due to dietary reasons, while others feel that it is the right things to do in terms of respecting the life of both plants and animals.The fruitarian diet can really differ depending upon the individual that is undergoing the practice. Some feel that making the majority of their meals, or fifty percent or more of their meals, consistent of fruits. Others feel that the definition of a fruit may include such foods such as nuts, grains, or bell peppers. Some argue that a true fruitarian will only eat fruits that will naturally fall off of the plant, so that they may avoid killing the plant by harvesting the fruit.
As far as motivation for the diet, many of the individuals that follow a fruitarian diet do so due to religious reasons; they may employ a holistic approach to medicine and argue that a fundamentalist lifestyle should be sought after, stating that Adam and Eve ate fruit in order to set a good example. Others simply feel that they want to avoid destroying life as much as possible, treading lightly on the earth and being gentle to both plant and animal life.
The diet is definitely not without its critics; the United States National Institute of Health has stated that a fruitarian is unable to get the proper amount of vitamin B12 in their diet, which can be damaging to their health. Also, the lack of protein that the diet promotes can be problematic in terms of an individual's level of health. If you are considering becoming a fruitarian and are wondering about how the diet can be sustainable while maintaining your level of health, you may want to consider supplementing your diet with protein, vitamin B12, and several other key nutrients that you are unable to obtain via fruit.
Without a doubt, the fruitarian diet can be very difficult to see through. If you agree with the principles of the diet, you may want to consider trying to ease into it by eating more fruit and decreasing your consumption of animal products. In the end, you may find that the slow and steady path towards a fruitarian diet can be ultimately more successful than trying to immediately switch your diet up. Vegans also tend to avoid wearing clothing that is made from animals. That means that leather, which is a common textile used in shoes and clothing, is out, as well as wool for the most hard-core of vegetarians.
If you are planning on becoming a vegan, you should do your best to heavily research the lifestyle so that you can ensure that you follow the lifestyle to the best of your abilities. Also, you should remember that you are responsible to nobody but yourself, so don't let others try to influence the way that you behave when it comes to the lifestyle. With some hard work and effort, you will be able to live as a vegan without it being a hindrance to your way of life. Being a vegetarian doesn't mean that you have to avoid all meat all the time. Meat is still a nutritious food. You also may occasionally want to eat meat on special occasions. A few bites of steak every month or two will probably be better for you than avoiding meat all the time. You will receive better nutrition and you will feel less deprived of the meats that you once enjoyed every day. To get the best health benefits from the world of the vegetarian as well as the world of the non vegetarian, try being a vegetarian most of the time.
