Enjoy a Vegetarian Barbecue
When I am the host of the family barbecue, I refuse to cook meat, but I make sure that I provide a wide variety of foods that even the die-hard carnivores will enjoy.
I also try to bring interesting vegetarian dishes when I am invited to barbecues hosted by carnivores, to make sure that everyone has something fun to eat.
I created this lens to help other people that are in similar situations, as well as people who just want to provide healthier choices at their family BBQ.
Whether you are a vegetarian, vegan, or you want to make sure your family BBQ is vegetarian friendly, I hope this lens provides helpful information to you.

Amazing Vegetarian Hot Dogs
Worthington Veja-Links, 19-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12)
Veja Links from Worthington are one of the best Vegetarian Hot Dogs ever made. The kids love them, they are good enough to fool carnivores, and they have a great taste and texture. These are a great option for anyone who wants to try a healthier alternative to beef hot dogs. Unfortunately, these are very hard to find outside California, but we happily purchase them by the case from Amazon.
Vegetarian BBQ Recipes
some of my favorite recipes to serve at the family bbq
- Easy Macaroni Salad
- This is a super easy macaroni salad for vegetarians that eat eggs and dairy products. The vegan version uses a few simple substitutions for a yummy bbq treat.
- Easy Pasta Salad
- This is one of the easiest recipes to take to a family bbq.
- Macaroni and Cheese
- Mac and Cheese is a traditional casserole for family parties and it's super easy and economical to prepare as a vegetarian or vegan dish.
- Un-Meatloaf
- This is my favorite vegetarian meatloaf recipe. Everyone goes wild when I make it.
Yummy Vegetarian Burgers
Worthington Vegetarian Burger, low Fat, 20-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12)
This is my all-time favorite vegetarian burger. This is fantastic for creating burgers for the grill, veggie meatloaf, veggie tacos, and any recipe that calls for ground meat or veggie crumbles. We are so happy that we can buy Burger by the case from Amazon because they are impossible to find in our area.
Vegetarian BBQ Links
- Bush Brothers Vegetarian Baked Beans
- These are pretty amazing tasting, straight from the can. They don't need any doctoring, the carnivores love them, and they are healthier than traditional baked beans made with pork.
- Morningstar Farms Grillers Vegan
- These are my favorite Morningstar Farms burgers. They are super simple to prepare and have a great grilled taste that everyone loves. These are perfect to bring to any bbq.
- Morningstar Farms® Hickory BBQ Riblets
- These are amazing and a perfect addition to any vegetarian BBQ menu. Morningstar Farms Riblets are 100% Vegan and are easy to find at most local grocery stores. They are super easy to prepare and come with loads of tasty sweet and smoky bbq sauce. They are only 220 calories, too!
Amy's Organic Vegatarian Baked Beans
Amy's Organic Vegetarian Baked Beans, 15-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12)
These are 100% Vegan and fantastic! These baked beans are also organic, gluten free, full of fiber, and super tasty!

- I'm a veggie, though no a vegan. Thanks for the BBQ ideas. My problem is a meat eating boyfriend, so we have a few cooking clashes.

- Like you, I don't cook meat at all. For barbecues, I like to grill portabello mushrooms and serve on a bun with all the burger fixings. Trader Joe's has some great vegetarian chili too. I'll have to try your un-meatloaf sometime.

- I am a fan of vegan lifestyle, write about it in my book Live Smart found at Lulu.com and suggest a site called www.veggie123.com titled How To Successfully Become A Vegetarian. It is a good resource I found when doing my book. One suggestion to vegetarians is be wary of texturized soy protien and hydrolyzed soy protien because they contain high levels of excitotoxins -aka MSG in one form or another and it is often what causes headaches, memory loss etc in vegetarians. All the best. Here is a quote from Albert Einstein you might enjoy.
"Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on earth as much as evolution to a vegetarian diet." - Albert Einstein

- Looks good! I use a lot of boca burgers and morning star products as a replacement for meat. I'm not a vegetarian yet but I aspire to be. I'm slowly cutting everything out week by week. Thanks for sharing! Looks so yummy and doesn't make my (__[__) bigger either. Yah! 5*****
