Veggie Tales

VeggieTales are great videos that deliver a message that both kids and adults should hear. VeggieTales started out in 1993 by taking a Bible verse and building a computer animated cartoon around it.

Big Idea, Inc., the company that produces VeggieTales videos and other items, is also into the motion picture business. The first VeggieTales feature film to hit the big screen was Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie back in 2002 (which lead to Big Idea, Inc.'s bankruptcy in 2003) and coming January 11, 2008 is The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything the second VeggieTales feature film.

The refreshingly positive biblical messages that kids receive from these videos is great.  My son loves the Silly Songs the best.  Cartoons with a good message - who knew?

The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything - A VeggieTales Movie

The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything brings the message that you don't have to be tall, strong, handsome, or even human (they are veggies, you know) to be a hero.

Elliot (Larry the Cucumber), Sedgewick (Mr. Lunt), and George (Pa Grape) are three wannabe heroes and adventurers lamenting their current jobs as busboys at the Pieces of Ate Dinner Theatre and hoping that someday they will take center stage in a real pirate show.

Their wish is mysteriously granted by a "Helpseeker" sent from the past in search of heroes. The three friends are swept back to the 17th century and right smack into danger. They must rescue a royal family from the clutches of an evil tyrant and along the way prove to themselves that they really do have what it takes to be heroes.

Visit VeggiePirates.com for wallpaper downloads, buddy icons, and photos from the movie.

Coming to DVD October 14, 2008.

Jonah Movie Reviews

Variety - "[The picture] offers a mixed salad of Bible-based homilies, clever wordplay, antic silliness and vibrant CGI animation. The religious themes are sounded with unabashed clarity, but not so insistently as to transform the enterprise into a Sunday School lesson."

The Hollywood Reporter - "Jonah is full of fun anachronisms that one now expects from children's animation, and this parable does not take itself so seriously as to have no sense of humor. If anything, the shtick flies fast and furious."

LA Times - "The characters still espouse Judeo-Christian values, although in a manner more closely resembling John Cleese than John Bunyan."

Tampa Bay Online - "As a kids' movie, it's a parent's dream, as long as the parent doesn't have a problem with religious faith being a major part of the story line. It's hard to imagine even agnostics being offended, as the movie keeps things lighthearted and never gets 'preachy.'"

Arizona Daily Star - "The best animated film so far this year hit theaters Friday. ... The characters are all vegetables with eyes and mouths. And not only would they make a tasty salad, they make a solid ensemble comedy."

Veggie Tales are great! I love the French pea guards in their version of Joshua and the Wall of Jericho. Too funny. "Would you like to join me in an irritating little song?" :) Great job on this lens!

Very nice lens! I went on a 1100 mile road trip with my 3 year old niece a few years ago. It was months before I could get some of the Veggie Tales songs out of my head!

I love-love Veggie Tales! Discovered them around 97-98 and can't believe how popular they became in a really short time. My youngest still loves them, and names everything "Bob"!
