Venom - Black Metal Gods

Venom is a black metal band, formed in 1979, in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK by Cronos (vocals), Mantas (guitar) and Abaddon (drums).

Cited as a major influence on death, black and thrash metal bands ever since, Venom were considered "the most outrageous heavy metal band in the world" in the early 1980's.

Their debut album in 1981, was "Welcome To Hell", a raw collection of brutal songs filled with dark Satanic imagery. This was followed by the legendary album "Black Metal" in 1982 - a title and style which gave rise to a whole genre of Heavy Metal.

The likes of Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Hellhammer, Exodus, Mayhem, and Morbid Angel cite Venom as a major influence.

Brutal, raw, fast and heavy, Venom are among the most important of all heavy metal bands, having originated a style that became a template for the black metal genre.

The title of Venom's second album would become influential and definitive enough to describe an entire subgenre called black metal, a category under which the band is most commonly referred.
