- Verizon keeps there directory to themselves, the reason that they have there own special directory can go back to the breakup of the Baby Bells... These directory's are referred to as CName databases. There are a few convergent points where these data elements meet but are not shared, thus we can research them on the web but our caller ID fails to work between to different networks.
All in all there is a lot of regulation in the telecommunication industry but nothing that unifies and protects the integrity of caller ID. So we only get to use a some of the SS7 capabilities.
