- Cari_Kay, I don't where you live, but I took that picture on a back road in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont near Craftsbury. Sorry about the phone lines. My photo editing skills are not good enough to get rid of the ubiquitous power lines.

- Beautiful photos! If you hadn't said these barns were in Vermont, I'd swear that first one is the one I am looking at right now out my window. Seriously, they look pretty identical. No phone lines going across here though. Great lens

- You were so lucky to have grown up on a Vermont farm! I love Vermont and farms. Where I am in Maine is nice, too.

- Enjoyable lens. Don't think barns in Vermont had ever entered my head once before. Now, if I ever go to Vermont, I will know at least one thing to look out for thanks to your clear explanations.

- Vermont is the #1 state that I want to visit when we finally get an RV. The pictures I've seen, these included, just pull me toward it. Great lens! Loved your family barn.

- The barns of Vermont give me a warm feeling of home. Growing up in Vermont I too played in the barn, fed hay to the cows and helped a calf learn to drink from a bucket. As you noted, barns in Vermont originally had vertical boards and were unpainted. The barn on our farm was constructed that way.
Later barns were painted red. Often the houses were as well. Our house was originally painted red. Historians have told me this is because red was the cheapest paint color. White, being more expensive, was a status symbol. Once a new formula for white was developed and farmers could afford it, houses were painted white. That is why you will often see red barns and white farmhouses in Vermont.
Lensrolled to Garner Rix and the Royalton Raid.
