Veronica and her Masterpieces

Well, to me they are works of art, anyway. I have been writing for more than 20 years, although the only thing published publicly was my Poetry. I love writing Articles, commentaries, reviews and informative pieces.

Over the past several months, I have aquired quite a "resume" of Articles. Mostly on Squidoo, but other sites as well. I was recently honored to have achieved the rank of "Giant Squid". It was because of one of my lenses that I got the job I now have, which is being a content/ghost/freelance writer with a company, and also making Squidoo Lenses for Clients! It is my dream job. I owe Squidoo many thanks.

I have separated my works into catagories, making them easier to find (I hope) Please leave comments, and let me know what you think.
THANK YOU!

An Overview

Until I do a lensography, this will have to suffice. Who am I? I am first and foremost a Mom and a Grandma. I can be witty, and sarcastic, but I am also extremely empathetic, and would not hurt anyone for the world.

I am legally deaf, so your videos are lost on me folks...lol. I am able to "hear" on the phone, and for the most part, being deaf does not affect who I am.

I am a freelance writer. I have had Poetry published in books (years ago) and I have many, many things published online. Writing is one of my passions. My main areas of interest, and yes, there ARE personal reasons, are Paranormal, Native American Art, Tradition and Culture, Family (including pets), and cooking.

I am NOT a journalist. I have several friends in real life who could be called "celebrities". While I may do a little PR for them, you are not going to read about their latest fight with their spouse on MY articles. They are friends above anything else.

I am an animal lover. I have a dog named Papi (Chihuahua) and I normally have a cat, unfortunately, she passed away a while back so we are looking for a new friend for Papi. In my life I have owned Cats, Dogs, Lizards, Spiders, Snakes, Rabbits, Hamsters and several other creatures.

I love the Black Hills (Paha Sapa) of South Dakota. One day, Some day, I hope to have a cabin amid the Ponderosa Pines surrounded by the spirituality and beauty of the Hills.

I write for an online News Source called Examiner (NO, it's not the Tabloid) I am the examiner for Native American Communities. Since I am most familiar with the Teton (Ogalala Lakota Sioux), I would welcome input from other Tribes and Communities.

I love to cook (I am also an editor for Chez Moz) but I hate to do dishes. Apparently this is hereditary, because my children hate doing dishes as well. Papi volunteers to do them, but I decline his offer. I am known affectionatly by family and friends as "The Kitchen Cupboard Cook" because, raising children on my own, I learned to make a meal out of anything, and make it taste good!

My Articles say a lot about me. As I tell people on my social networks, I am pretty much who I present myself to be. I guess I am not clever enough to develop a "personna".

My Love of the Black Hills

An Insight

Years ago, I decided to take my family, and a friend, on vacation to South Dakota. My Parent's had taken us there as children, and it made a real impression. As fate would have it, we stayed in a little tourist town at the foot of Mount Rushmore, called Keystone.

Keystone South Dakota is simply charming. There is an Old West Style Boardwalk on both sides of the Street. In the Saloon, there is a cute skit about Wild Bill, and on the main street, you can find "Big Dave" (All 7' of him) cracking a bullwhip at the cars. Yes, he really does this. He is a 7 time Champion in Bull Whip Competitions.

Sitting along the Boardwalk, was a Native American Elder, in full Regalia. Beside him was some of the most beautiful art I had ever seen. Paintings done on Buffalo hides. The man's name was Paha Ska, which means "White Hills". I wanted to get a picture of Paha Ska with my Daughters, and Paha Ska readily held out his hands to my Children. I knew my older Daughter would take his hand, but then I saw something I'd never seen before. My youngest daughter, who has ADHD, is Bipolar, and has had several other mental diagnosis (and always HATED to be touched)...She took hold of Paha Ska's hand! I snapped the picture quickly, still in disbelief I was seeing this! I knew instantly that there was something VERY special about this man.

In one of the shops, across the Street, I met his wife, Susan. We talked and laughed. We seemed to instantly hit it off. I so enjoyed our trip to South Dakota, I hated to leave!

The following year, I went back up to Keystone. This time with just my best friend. We got to know Susan a little better and she took us onto the Reservation. What I saw, and experienced on the Reservation is a story unto itself, but she took us "Bead Hunting". We dug in the dirt and found ancient beads. You would have thought I found gold when I found my first one! On that trip to the Reservation, I decided I wanted to do whatever I could to help the People of Pine Ridge Reservation. That year I started my donation drive and gathered clothes, blankets, toys, whatever...and delivered them to the reservation.

Sadly, Paha Ska passed away in November of 2005. Although I hadn't known him an extremely long time, I felt a true emptiness in my heart. I continued to trek up to South Dakota whenever possible and see Susan, and visit the reservation. I have a garage full of blankets and toys I'd like to take up now, but my budget just won't allow it.

As odd as it sounds, when I am on the Sacred Land of the Lakota, I can feel the spirituality. There is, what I would call, a mournful type of peace. Not a sadness, but a hope, a remembrance of times gone by.

I feel Paha Ska's Spirit with me, when I write my Native American Stories. No, I'm not crazy, really. It is so difficult to explain, but I know he is with me when I write.

My Dream (as simple as it may sound to some) is to have a cabin (made of Ponderosa Pine, of course) amidst the wooded Hills. There, I would pursue my writing, and be able to continue my enjoyment of the Spirituality and Peace that the Hills bring to me. I can see it...my cabin. It is beautiful, and one day, hopefully, it will be real.

My Squidoo Journey

How my life was literally changed by Squidoo

(That, for now, is my 'custom graphic'. Like it? It was created by Cryptic Fragments

I cannot even remember how I came across Squidoo the first time. I do remember, however, that it was in July that I found it. I had been writing on some other Article sites, such as Hubpages. The main thing is, I did stumble across Squidoo, and I signed up. I can honestly say, in retrospect that it was one of the best decisions I had made.

It didn't take long to become addicted, and soon I was trying to learn more HTML and I joined Squid U which also greatly affected my Squidoo journey. I got an email from a Squid Greeter after I had made some lenses. ThomasC was the greeter and he said he could help me become a Giant Squid. A Giant Squid is a lensmaster who creates at least 50 quality lenses. I wasn't sure I could do it, but with Thomas' cheer leading and encouragement, as well as HTML hints...Sure enough, I got that fantastic email saying I had been chosen as a Giant Squid! That was in September of 2008.

Later, in September of 2008, I responded to an ad at AC that someone needed a content/freelance writer. There were many who responded to that ad, and I wasn't sure I would get it. When they wrote and asked for a sample of my work, I sent the link to my Native American/Lakota Lens. I got a letter the next day saying they were very impressed and that "You are in!" I was overjoyed!

Shortly after starting this wonderful job, my boss asked me a question about Squidoo, and I got up the nerve to propose making custom lenses. I wrote up the lens to advertise the company I work for, No Doubt Marketing. We got customers, and happily I was not only freelancing, but creating lenses for their clients. The Squidoo community was great in supporting me in this, and I am appreciative.

It was after that I decided to branch out on my own to create lenses. So, I did. That is how my someday full time career got started, with this Lens: Lens built for you. The company still gets more responses than I, but that is fine. Either way, I get to create lenses.

The Giant 100 choices will be Dec 31. I had not intended to try for it, but now I just might! I have over 75 lenses now.

My Favorite Fellow Lensmasters

I honestly try to get along with everyone. I am someone who really dislikes confrontation. I have learned, however, that sometimes it can not be avoided. SOOOO-as a result, I am a nice little puppy with a mean bite! I was raised to be polite, but when I am wronged, I will say something about it. I'm also normally quick to forgive. I am learning to discover that there will always be people who don't like me, and there really is nothing I can do about that! Christ was the perfect person, and they crucified him!!

Wow - this is terrific! I was opening new tabs as I was reading, and now there are so many open tabs I can see it's going to take me quite some time to read them all. This is great - I feel almost as if we've just had a cup of tea together and shared histories. I didn't realize, until reading this, how many things we both love. Blessings to you!
