Step Up To The Plate For Veterans Park in Pendleton SC

Ranked #141 in Nonprofits, #39,349 overall | Donates to Friends of the Park

A Fundraising Campaign for the Ball Fields at Veterans Park in Pendleton SC

These are very difficult economic times
but this is a project that can not be overlooked any longer.
It is time for us to
"Step Up To The Plate".
Together WE CAN make a difference!
The Town of Pendleton, Pendleton Recreation Association and Friends of the Park have joined together in an effort to raise enough money to renovate the first ball field and to erect a Veterans Memorial at the corner of Lebanon Road and Long Road. Once the ball field is turned, memorial pavers will go on sale to pay for the construction of the Veterans Memorial. The cost of making the first ballfield suitable will be approximately $200,000. Once we have half of that money raised, matching grants can be applied for by the Town of Pendleton.

Rusted Fencing is only one of the problems

Fencing at Veterans Park in Pendleton SC

There are many things wrong with these fields that we hope to correct. The Rusted fencing is one of the problems but also the lack of efficient dugouts, inadequate drainage, inadequate seating for fans, and distance from the Pavilion where concessions are sold.

The Master Plan calls for all the fields to be turned so that the home plate backs up to the Pavilion. Once the fields are turned with new fencing, drainage, lighting, dugouts, etc., we will be an ideal venue for Tournaments which will bring in more money to the park as well as the whole community.

Watch the red paint go around the bases as the money is raised!

As we move from one $10,000 section to another, the baseline portion will be painted white and as more money is raised the line will turn red.

Let's bring it on home!

Watch the Donations Sign at Veterans Park:
Harold Seals volunteered to make the sign and used 2 post left from the build of Barrett's Place Playground.
Teri Sloan, former Town Administrator, volunteered to paint our sign so everyone can watch how we are doing with our fundraising efforts.

All donations are appreciated and you can mail your tax deductible to donation to:

Here are 6 ways that WE CAN Step Up To The Plate!

Together WE CAN Make A Difference!

1. Mail your tax deductible donation to
Friends of the Park
PO Box 408
Pendleton, SC 29670

2. Talk to your church group, civic group, school group about sponsoring a Fundraiser or have one yourself such as a yard sale, bake sale, lemonade stand. etc. Let the children that this field will benefit help with the fundraising.

3. Visit the Friends of the Park website at http://www.squidoo.com/fotp where 100% of the royalty payments are donated to Friends of the Park. Your visits help the rankings and the higher the rank, the higher the payment. There is a list of other sites that offer the same thing so take time to visit them all. Leave us a comment so we will know you were there. You can also make donations through this website.

4. Participate and help in the fundraising events sponsored by Friends of the Park and Pendleton Recreation Association. They will be posted on the Friends of the Park website.

5. Spread the word to your friends and relatives asking for their support. Every dollar counts.

6. JOIN FRIENDS OF THE PARK - Each Month (3rd Monday at 6:30 pm PUMC) we will hear from each of the 3 partners in this fundraising campaign. Get Involved! The more people we have working on this, the more successful it will be.

One More Very Important Thing You Can Do:
Over the past three years a sub-committee of Imagine Anderson ( a 20 year vision created for Anderson County) has been working behind the scenes to convince County Council to pass a 2% Hospitality Tax for the unincorporated areas of Anderson County. (For example, the businesses at the I85 exits). This would generate approximately $3,000,000 annually. There is also a plan that was created for the distribution of the funds. Much of the money generated would be distributed to county municipalities and communities for recreational facilities.

Tom Allen has said that he wants to hear from people in his Council District (the Pendleton/Townville areas) that would be in favor of the Hospitality Tax; otherwise he feels he couldn't vote for it. Please email him and call him to show support for recreational facilities in our area.

His phone numbers are home (964-9976), cell (934-0417) and his email is thomas9976@charter.net.

Note: I understand that this will not be on the Agenda for County Council until after the June Election.
