2009 Calendars- Coming Soon!

I have been looking for a way to showcase my love of photography in a fun and practical way.  I have an artist friend who recommended trying calendars- they are like little books of artwork that last all year.  I love having an artistic calendar in my room because it is like having a new piece of art every month and it is functional.

I am using my photography skills to create a set of 2008 calendars for sale and seeing if they are commercial viable, as well as aesthetically pleasing!

I had to take about 400 shots for each topic just to get 13 quality shots (12 months and a cover).  The biggest issue for me is making sure that each shot is different than any other shot in the calendar.

All my calendars feature US holidays, Christian holidays, and celestial events.  They are all full bleed on the pictures and full, vibrant color thanks to the quality of the printer.

Mini Bio

A little about me...

I am an artist and photographer currently building an online presence for my photographic products. I have recently traveled to the United Kingdom on a photography trip and I use the natural beauty that surrounds me in Florida for my work as well.

I am exploring various commercial ways to make my work viable as income and have found some great sites to host my work. The problem is a common one, getting exposure for my work! The Internet is a hundred miles wide and an inch deep so in order to even register on the map you have to stand out quite a bit.

I am happy most when I'm working on my artwork and nothing would make me happier than to be able to concentrate on doing that. Immediate success, not likely... Eventual success, quite possible! not exactly as optimistic as some, but definitely more realistic. :-)

Palm Island 2008

Palm Island is located in Placida, Florida and is a semi-private beach. The only access is from a barge that crosses the inter-costal waterways from the mainland.

I have been visiting the island for 18 years now and have watched its shape change as the ocean gives and takes sand to the shores. The island hasn't really changed all that much though, and its beauty has not diminished at all.

Because the island is on the Gulf of Mexico, the water is warm most of the year and the sunsets are spectacular.

This calendar features various aspects of Palm Island- the docks, the villas, the flora, and, of course, the beach.

Palm Island 2008 Calendar Preview

Palm Island Sunsets, 2008

Palm Island has some of the best sunsets in all of Florida due to its prime location on the Gulf of Mexico and its gorgeous beaches.

Since I have been visiting the island for so long, I have a huge collection of sunset photography. I started taking pictures of the sunset with my first camera fifteen years ago! There is some real personality to every sunset- lingering colors that fade slowly, or a brilliant swirl of colors that become navy then black quickly.

This calendar features my most recent trips to the island and captures the blues, pinks, and oranges that are often present in the sunsets there.

2008 Palm Island Sunsets Calendar Preview

Hampton Court Gardens 2008

Recently I visited the United Kingdom and I made sure I returned to Hampton Court. I visited when I was much younger and the memories of the gardens stayed with me. I had to return in the late spring to see everything in bloom again.

I took about 500 pictures- everything from individual flowers to massive, all encompassing shots of entire gardens. The amount of time it must take the planners and gardeners for up keep of the plants and flowers is just staggering when you look at not just the number of plants, but also the precise way they are arranged.

This calendar features my favorite shots from all the gardens and includes some more detailed pictures and also larger scale shots of the gardens as a whole.

2008 Hampton Court Calendar Preview

Barry Island 2008

While in Wales, I spent several days at the seaside at Barry Island. The island is not really an island, but more of peninsular path and a shore line. The tides bring the water almost up to the shore barriers and then take it 500 feet out, exposing a huge beach.

The peninsular part of the shore is up a craggy rock face and a path stretches all the way out to the tip and back, affording many spectacular shots of the rocks and the ocean. I took about 350 pictures from the beach, the rocks, the hills surrounding, and the beach pier.

This calendar features the best photographs of the ocean, beach, rocks, and paths of Barry Island in the early summer/ late spring months when the sun is shining and there's no rain.

Brecon Beacons 2008

I took a day trip out to the breath taking Brecon Beacons while recently visiting the United Kingdom. There is a nature trail that is open to the public for hikes through the Brecon Beacons and the views from the trail are magnificent.

The sheer face of the rocks and the gentle rolls of the hills beyond have to be seen to be believed.

This calendar features my favorite pictures of the views from the trail.

Cardiff Bay 2008

I took a day trip out to Cardiff Bay while I was recently visiting the United Kingdom. Cardiff Bay is located in Cardiff, Wales and has an amazing variety of shops, restaurants, plazas, and (of course) beautiful views.

I walk all around the pier areas and the pubic art work and managed to limit myself to about 200 pictures!

This calendar features the best pictures of Cardiff Bay and includes captions for all the sites.

Cheddar Gorge 2008

On an earlier trip to the United Kingdom, I spent a day in Cheddar. It is a wonderfully quaint town with some small tourist shops, candy and bread shops, and home of several wonderful natural caves. The caves are open for tours and are unbelievable.

When I returned to the UK most recently, I knew I had to make a special trip to Cheddar Gorge. The most spectacular views can be seen from the top of the nature trails and even from the road.

This calendar features a selection of photographs taken in and above the Cheddar Gorge in the United Kingdom.

During a week in London, I took various pictures pf the views of the city. I went all over- the Thames, the parks, the museums, and the shops.

This calendar features a variety of shots from the city of London, including the Thames, Tower Bridge, the Millennium Bridge, and many other sights from the city.
