You can choose to build your Victorian style greenhouse out of wood, galvanized iron, PVC or aluminum for the framing. Wood is the most common structure but PVC pipe is a sometimes a cheaper and faster method.

Glass is expensive and needs a stronger structural frame such as wood. Glass is attractive,very transparent, and formal for permanent greenhouses.

Fiberglass reinforced panels are cheaper than glass reducing cost. Fiberglass reinforced panels last about 5 years and do not need a strong structural support so PVC can be used for the structure. This is just as transparent as glass if not better because you do not need as much structure as you do with glass. It is also flexible enough to be used with the hoop style greenhouse.

Polyethylene film is much cheaper. Polyethylene film is good for homemade greenhouses because it does not require a strong structural frame dramatically reducing costs. You can use PVC for the structure when using polyethylene film. It lasts about 2 years on average.
