Antique Hand Painted Art Porcelain
Rosenthal Porcelain Hand Painted Dowry Tea Set
Our Ruby Lane shop has a beautiful selection of hand painted art porcelain. Pickard Studios perfected the art porcelain market. But, at the turn of the 20th Century, hand painting porcelain was a much loved hobby of ladies and gentlemen. Many dowry china sets were all hand painted. Some of these pieces have survived and are wonderful to display and appreciate as part of history.
Featured here we have a beautiful hand painted heirloom porcelain tea set with lavender accents and wonderful raspberry decor. This exquisite set includes Teapot, sugar and creamer. Look at the beautiful design and colors on these pieces. There is nice gold accents on handles and rims. This was most likely a dowry set painted for a bride to be using Rosenthal blanks. This lovely cut glass jam, marmalade or honey pot is deeply grooved with geometric patterns and pretty half moons and notches on the rim.
The lid is also cut glass and was hand etched on the side to accommodate the spoon; which is included. It has a nice swirl pattern on the flat portion and the finial is pointed with six smooth panels. The jar stands on three legs that are hand blown to look like snails as they curl up to make a ball at the bottom.

Sterling Silver and Silver Plate at Victoria's Curio
Antique Silver Plated Brides Basket Brides Bowl Poole Silver Company Pink Enameled Cased Glass Bowl Ornate Silver Plate Holder
Featured here we have an outstanding example of a Victorian Bride's Basket or Bride's Bowl. These pieces were typically given as wedding gifts to the bride in the late 1880's to around 1905 when they fell out of favor.
The elaborate, extremely well made, silver plated holder is from the Poole Silver Company, Taunton. Mass. and is marked quadruple plate.
The handle has a twisted pattern with beading overlapping this. The top of the handle comes to a point in a flowery Art Nouveau pattern.
The bowl is pink cased glass with a deeply swagged and ruffled rim. There is a hand painted enameled decoration of flowers and swags on the interior of the bowl. Something you don't really see much of in these items.
This is a stunning display piece!

Wonderful Portrait Pieces on eBay!
Decorative antique and vintage porcelain items were and still are HIGHLY collectible pieces. Most were transfer prints applied to porcelain. Some, however, are hand painted by turn of the 20th Century artists from Limoges, Pickard and the most coveted, Royal Vienna.

Victoriana 'THE ART OF THE FAN'
Visit the Victoriana website and read about 'THE ART OF THE FAN'. A lady's fan was an instrument in communication as much as it was for fanning one's self for comfort. Of course ladies wore corsets and this would cut off air so many times a fan would help with the 'faint' feeling a Victorian lady would have.
To see some beautiful fans, including the one featured here, visit Victoria's Curio.

A Great Place to Visit for a taste of Victorian Living
The Biltmore Castle and Inn - Ashville, North Carolina
This country retreat, built for George Washington Vanderbilt III, is located in the scenic Appalachian mountains in western North Carolina in the town of Asheville, known in the late nineteenth century as a health resort. This large estate was planned as self-supporting with gardens, a nursery, farms, and forests surrounding the estate. The name Biltmore derives from "Bildt," Vanderbilt's ancestors' place of origin in Holland, and "More," Anglo-Saxon for open, rolling land.
The large house was modeled on the French Renaissance chateau, with these characteristic features: steeply pitched roofs, towers, turrets, and extensive sculptural ornamentation. As John M. Bryan explains (alluding to the work of Mark Girouard), this style was "the Nouveau Riche style" of the third quarter of the nineteenth century in England and Victorians were attracted to the skyline silhouette of this dramatic style (41-42). Hunt and Vanderbilt had in fact visited a number of these estates in both France and England and they were especially impressed by Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire (1877-83), which was one of the principal sources for the east elevation of Biltmore Estate. Size was also important, for this residence is the largest private house in the United States. According to official publications, this country estate has 4 acres of floor space, 255 rooms, and 43 bathrooms.
More information can be found here at http://www.biltmore.com/stay/inn/
There are other locations near the Biltmore. We recommend the Comfort Suites Biltmore.

Great information on Antique Jewelry good lens 5stars from me. I am a die hard fan for Antique Costume Jewelry. The antique style is smart and trendy. Costume jewelry is more about defining the fashion house of the whole world. Whether the jewelry is classic or stylish all depends upon an individual's choice.
