MY TEEN AND THE VIDEO GAMES
I don't think that he should not play video games, but I am concerned that he has no other activities.
I'm trying to encourage him to do other things too.
TEENS AND VIDEO GAMES
Take advantage of video games to educate
Video games are fun, but also send strong messages about the values of society and who has control. As parents, our challenge is looking beyond the hype that makes the violence in video games. Try to understand the relationship between your teen and a video game, recognizing that this can be complex. As a first step, learn to know the titles of the games that populate the world of your teen. No matter if you lack the knowledge or technology can not match the talent that shows your child at play. Simply start a conversation with him is a good way to start.
7 WAYS TO MAXIMIZE ELECTRONIC GAMES
1. Seek to know the games that your teen practice.
There are many reasons that attract players. You will not know what attracts your teenager unless asked. Is it possible to beat others? The mystery of being able to get lost in a fantasy world? The chance to solve problems? Or could it be the fact acquire extraordinary powers, connect with others or just play a game that is popular with your friends?Cuidado con los juegos que presentan estereotipos e imágenes negativas de las mujeres.
2. Beware of games that feature stereotypical and negative images of women.
Many games run violence against female characters, or lack of racial diversity. It may be that show heroes and whites as African Americans or Latinos as athletes or as victims of violence. Talk about the messages they send these games, then discourage your child not to play with them. It's good that your teen hear you speaking against the images and ideas that you consider objectionable.
3. Watch violence
Avoid games where killing is justified or is free from punishment. Encourage your teen to stay away from games that have "first-person shooters", in which makes the player assumes the identity of a violent character.
4. Teach your teen to identify the location of the product.
Marketing specialists use video games to display a mark spectator and to link their products with what "is fashionable or is cool." Talk to your teen about why characters in the videos use or wear branded goods. Are there financial reasons why a product is listed in action games and sports games?
5. Emphasize the social aspects related to the games.
Encourage your teen to exchange hints about the game with other players online or with friends. This can help prevent that electronic games will become a place of solitary retreat.
6. Talk to your teen about the players they can find online.
If your teen is competing with their peers online - or "chat" with them on the screen during the games - discuss the importance of privacy. Remind you should never disclose your personal information, especially to people who just met. Encourage your teen to think about what others say online.
7. Be creative to negotiate as long as your teen can spend on video games daily
Put conditions to permit playing video games to time spent on other activities. Use all your creativity and share your experience with other parents.

- Sports or get them hooked in a hobby. My son's would play video games all day if I let them. They would rather go outside and play baseball with me or go fishing. It is hard to make the balance and each child is different. I love video games, my sons love video games but I have to enforce a balance for all of us.
