Video game tester jobs are very similar other jobs, they can be as boring as hell. For most gamers, having a career as a video game tester may sound like a dream job, but would it really be all fun and games? Many in the industry would say that it is. But let's be real it is not for everyone.
Video game testing may sound glamorous, however it can at times be a tedious job. As a tester you would be required at times play through the same levels many, many times over. Sometimes it can take this long just to identify all different bugs in the game. Many people imagine that video game testers spend their day playing through the latest and greatest new titles. While this may be true to some extent, many people don't understand exactly how much "work" they will be doing while playing.

For the most part however, the majority of people in the video game testing business seem to be very happy with their jobs. After all, they do get to play the hottest new games and see what the future of the industry holds months, sometimes years before the general public. Despite the hard work, there are a lot of people competing for testing jobs in the video game industry. When you think about it, how many gamers wouldn't love the chance to play games all day for a living?Many game designers, artists, and others on the production side of gaming used video game testing as a good way to get their foot in the door. In fact, Tommy Torrino, one of the composers behind the soundtrack to the blockbuster game "Halo" originally started in the industry as a game tester. He wanted to eventually become a composer, and he started out as a tester and worked his way up. In the game industry, contacts are everything. If you want to go far you have to meet the right people. And being a game tester is a great way to do just that.
So what are the qualifications to being a game tester? It really depends. Even within such a segmented industry, there are many different positions available for many different skill levels. If you know where to look, you may be able to find a game testing position that requires nothing more than the ability to play video games. Some of the senior level testing jobs may require years of industry experience and a masters degree in a gaming related college major. The job positions vary wildly, but if you dig deep enough you can find a game testing job for almost any skill level.

On average, game testers make anywhere between $10-$100+ an hour, some probably make even more than that. Someone with no special experience or college degree just starting out can realistically expect to make between $10 and $20 an hour. But it's also a great way to your foot in the door to a very exciting industry.Who should become a game tester? On average, most people in the gaming industry, including those with game tester jobs, have a higher job satisfaction level when compared to other career paths. If you truly love gaming, and want to make a career out of something that you love, go for it. You may just land yourself the dream job of a lifetime as a game tester.

Im like most of your gamers you see play the hardest difficulty and pwn it up get everything but i also play online games that are much more then your games vs the computer. thats were the real challenge is. as a video game tester i could bring so much more to the table then expected. iv had many jobs but if its one job id do anything to have and anything to keep its being a video game tester. i plan on keeping at it till i find a video game job. email(vfrostbitev@yahoo.com)
