Video Game Secrets Issue 3 - Mario Kart Wii
Ever wanted to know the best shortcuts? Wanted to show off to your friends about how good you are at Mario Kart Wii? Then this is definitely the lens for you!
Shortcuts Guide
Well.. This is my shortcuts guide, containing all the shortcuts I use on Wi-Fi. These all save you at least a little bit of time, if not huge amounts.Shortcuts
Luigi Circuit: On the final corner (wuth all the boosts), cut accross the sand with pipes on it using a boost. This saves you lots of time!
Mushroom Gorge: Right near the start (and on the left), boost of the edge and trick off the mushroom you bounce on. Then, trick on the next mushroom you bounce on and you will land on the bridge leading to another mushroom.
Mushroom Gorge: When there is a fork in the road, choose the left side. This has boosts and is quicker than the mushroom jumps.
Mushroom Gorge: In the cave, always go to the left mushroom (where you go up mushrooms and then down mushrooms).
Mushroom Gorge: On the final corner, it is possible to skip the whole thing by boosting over it. This is a hard task, however, and there is a high chance of falling in the pit.
Toad's Factory: In the area with the moving half pipes, boost around the jump in the middle. This saves time as you don't travel in the air, yet you are still going fast (from the boost).
Mario Circuit: Where there is a jump in a sand pit, if you have two boosts, boost around the jump. this way you are travelling fast and don't get airtime, saving you a couple of seconds.
Coconut Mall: After the first escalator, go right. Make sure you have a boost; you can boost through a shop to save time.
Coconut Mall: In the area with the fountain, always go to the side with the boost on it. This way, you still get an item, but you get the added speed boost.
DK's Snowboard Cross: On the area with two you turns, powerslide over the gap and you will land facing the correct direction.
Wario's Gold Mine: After the big jump, go to the left when you face a downhill. This will take you into an area with three boosts and some items
Daisy Circuit: After the first two turns, there is a staircase. Boost up it to grab an item and save a couple of seconds.
Koopa Cape: If you get a boost, save it until you come accross the red shell before the pipe. Boost over the grass to the right of the shell.
Maple Treeway: Right after the start, there is a gap in the fence where you can boost. This will take you through a shortcut that takes you right next to the cannon.
Grumble Volcano: Where there is a fork near the end of the lap, always go right. It is quicker as it has less airtime.
Dry Dry Ruins: If you have boosts, you can boost around the lake near the start of the course.
Dry Dry Ruins: Near the end of the course, boost between a pillar and the wall for a few seconds off your time.
Moonview highway: After the first turn, you can go onto the hill to your right. There is a boost jump up here.
Bowser Castle: If you have a boost, boost around the ramp where bowser shoots huge fireballs at you.
Rainbow Road: If you have more than one boost (three or a golden mushroom), boost more twice before a jump to clear a huge gap in the section where there are two rings with holes in them (after the wavy bit of the track).
Peach Beach: After the first turn, there is a guy clapping. Behind him, there is a boost jump.
Peach Beach: If you have a star, 3 mushrooms, or a golden mushroom, continually boost through the large area of water for a large amount of time cut off.
Ghost Valley 2: There is an area with a U-Turn or a jump. Wheelie or boost to make the jump, which can cut vital seconds off your time.
Delfino Square: Always use the straight set of stairs, it is quicker.
Delfino Square: After the section with two different sets of stairs, go left and boost off the mini ramp to land on the wooden dock. This saves a large amount of time.
Delfino Square: If you do not use the shortcut mentioned before this one, go right after the bridge into a brown path. Make sure you boost.
Waluigi Stadium: If you have boosts, boost through the pool of water after the second main jump.
Shy Guy Beach: Boost accross water sections wherever possible. This will always save you time.
Mario Circuit 3: Near the end of a track there is a hole in one wall for you to boost through. Do so to save high amounts of time.
Peach Garden: In the keyshaped lot of plants, boost through to save time.
Peach Garden: After the key shaped turn, go to the near wall and do a sharp turn near the square patch of grass to save time.
Peach Garden: After the section with three little semi circle hedges, boost over grass to go flying on a ramp.
DK Mountain: Slow down near the triple U-Turn section. where the fence stops, slow down and drive straight over the edge. This is a huge time saver.
Well, there you go. I am unsure of whether I missed anything, I'll play through the game a bit to find anything I missed :)
Secrets
Secret #1: POW Blocks. When you see the POW block come up onto the screen, flick the Wii Wheel just before the third strike to grant yourself 'immunity'. If pulled off successfully, you will jump and spin around once but will be going at full speed after landing.
Secret #2: Speedy Restart
If you have fallen into a pit, hit the accelerate button as soon as your kart/bike touches the track after Lakitu drops you to come back with speed.
Secret #3: Mii Weight
Changing the weight of your Mii in the Mii channel will alter their weight class in Mario Kart. Low weight on the Mii channel = small, medium weight on the Mii channel = medium, and high weight on the Mii channel = heavy/big.

Glitches
Glitch #1: More than one of the same character! Here's a neat little glitch for ya. In multiplayer, two or more people can use the same player. Get the first person to select their character, then tell them to press B. Then, get the next player to do the same thing, and repeat for every player. After everyone is done, go back to the previous screen. Now, enter character select, and everyone will be on the same character.
Note: This does work on Wifi!
