Here's the situation - you have an incredibly funny, shocking, or useful video stuck on your computer or camera phone, and have no way to post it online to share with the world. Well, young Speilberg, you're in luck. Hosting videos online has never been easier or free-er.

This lens will help connect you with quick and simple services that carry the bandwidth burden of your videos for you, as you become the next web video star.

Free Video Hosts

these services are making Internet TV a reality, one clip at a time

Based on what you need from a host, choose the service that best fits you. Or, just go bananas and post your video on all of them!
YouTube
This is one of the most popular places for people to share and find new videos. They limit the clips to under ten minutes, the quality is reduced, and the site can become slow or unresponsive without warning.

Despite the bugs, YouTube has an active community that makes it easy for your video to to be seen. So, if you're looking for your mini-movie to spread far and wide, this is a good place to host it.
Vimeo
This site is similar to YouTube because it lets people socialize around the video. However, since it's less popular, don't count on as many people being exposed to your work.
Revver
Revver is less focused on community, and but more useful for making money off your video. The Revver service will match ads to your video, and give you a piece of the action from whatever the advertiser pays.

And here's the kicker - when a fan plays the video on their own site, they can earn money from it too. Money, money, money for eveyone!
MySpace Video
This service sucks, but since it's by MySpace, it is very popular. And since it's popular, you should know about it.
Google Videos
What's cool about Google Video is the ability to upload any length video and make it available for download to an iPod or PSP, if you so choose. In the future, Google plans to allow small time directors, such as yourself, the ability to sell their video downloads, just like the big boys do now.
Grouper
Grouper is unique because they also provide desktop software that allows you to edit your videos, and upload them directly to the site. SONY bought Grouper, so you can probably expect your clips to lay next to SONY's library of music videos and movie trailers.
Yahoo Videos
Yahoo Videos doesn't just allow uploading of your videos, they also search for vids, no matter what site they're hosted on. In theory, this may get your video a bigger audience than some of the hosting only services.
AOL Uncut Video
AOL's video hosting service is very similiar to YouTube, which isn't a bad thing. It's not good either.
MSN Soapbox
MSN's hasn't launched their YouTube clone yet, but you can expect it to be popular for the same reason MySpace Video is.
Dailymotion
DailyMotion has a heavy focus on social networking, with the ability to create groups, leave comments, and ratings, etc.
MetaCafe
MetaCafe stresses that they try to review all of the sites videos, and promote the best ones.
iFilm
If your video is good enough, VH1 may select it to appear on its Web Junk 20 program.
Motionbox
Motionbox tries to cure the problem of sharing long videos by allowing you to highlight and tag portions of the video that are the most interesting parts.
