Vince Gill is Not Your Average Country Singer

Let's face it. The guy is like some kind of musical super-hero. It's a bird! It's a plane! No--it's the Vinster! You'd be hard pressed to find anyone else as musically gifted as this fellow. He can sing. He can play. He can write.

Vince Gill could easily pay the bills with just one of his talents. But God gave him all three. Lucky us.

Top 10 Reasons Why Vince Gill is my Favorite Musician

10. Less is more.
9. Images are for wimps. Real men have character.
8. He can sing, write songs, and play guitar. (Hair optional.)
7. Range of duet partners include: Kermit the Frog, Barbra Streisand.
6. Who needs a cowboy hat when you have talent?
5. Acquired the nickname 'Sweet Pea' and didn't make an appointment with his publicist.
FORE!
3. Who else writes 43 original songs and sells them all for less than $25? (I guess that whole "less is more" thing backfired on me didn't it?)
2. His LIVE performances sound better than his recorded ones.
1. One word: Respect.

An Encounter of the Vince Kind

Fox Theatre, Detroit, Michigan, October 21, 2006

My husband and I were able to celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary with second row seats to see Vince at the Fox Theatre. Not too shabby! Lucky for me I was also able to win a Meet and Greet pass through Vince's fan club.

There was a little confusion with the time so the group of us didn't get to spend as much time with Vince as we'd hoped. But it was still exciting! Not like I had a huge conversation planned anyway. What are you supposed to say in situations like that?

"Hi there! I think you are soooooooo cool!"

Somehow I got to be first in line so it was even more awkward. I said, "Hi my name is Amanda--it's very nice to meet you." (I met him once before years ago at Fan Fair but thought it best to start again from scratch). I shook his hand and he signed my lyric book from the new These Days album.

I handed my camera to some guy who failed miserably at his first two attempts to take our picture. Finally he got it on the third try after Vince said, "I think it's broken!" No it's not broken! You can tell I'm a little frightened by the look on my face. Vince is, as always, cool as a cucumber. There was some massive lighting going on also--as you can see my face is really shiny!

This all happened within a time span of 5 seconds or so. The man is very tall by the way. In case you were wondering about the purple jacket (and who wouldn't be) he mentioned during the show that he picked it up at a garage sale the Temptations were having. (A little Motown humor there.)

These are Websites Vince Wants You to Visit

The Grand Ole Opry
Everyone needs to visit AT LEAST once in your lifetime. Even if the thought of country music makes you twitch in your go-go boots. I once was lucky enough to see Vince perform there as a surprise guest. I believe it was also the same night as Grandpa Jones' last performance. :-(
Country Music Hall of Fame
Vince says, "Music is an enduring thread that weaves throughout our lives. If you are like me, much of that music is rooted in the traditions of country music. I have joined with dozens of artists in a special effort known as All for the Hall to help preserve the legacy of the music that inspires us. Some are playing honky tonks for tips and others are filling stadiums. Each artist listed here has contributed to give the proceeds of one performance to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and more are joining daily."
The Vinny Golf Tournament
"The Vinny" is Vince Gill's Pro-Celebrity-Junior invitational tournament and was established in 1993 to generate funds for the development and growth of junior golf programs across the state of Tennessee.
Ryman Auditorium
Truly, "A house of history," this is where it all began in 1892. Located in downtown Nashville.

I've Got Front Row Seats!

Wow--apparently lightning CAN strike twice! I managed to score front row seats to Vince's concert on February 21, 2007 at the Wharton Center in East Lansing, MI. The very place where I graduated from collge! (Michigan State University).

Crazy thing is, I originally had fifth row seats which I was pretty happy with anyway. Then I get an email from the ticket company that says, "Some people's credit cards were declined. We have front row seats available. Do you want them?"

Heck ya! At first I thought it was a scam but apparently it was simply my lucky day!

Anyway, I'm quite excited about it AND I think it's the first time I've traveled less than 60 miles to see a Vince Gill concert. Yeehaw!
