Need to Restore a Vintage Triumph Bike?

Triumph motorcycles are the creme de la creme when it comes to British motorcycles. They are to England, what Harley Davidson is to American bikers. So it is not surprising that there are numerous vintage motorcycle collectors that consider a vintage Triumph to be a great find worth the value of restoring and showing.

Unfortunately, many vintage motorcycles are not in the best of shape when you find them, and so to restore them, parts and accessories need to be found.

Here is a start on locating the necessary parts to restore any old Triumph, from windshields to spark plugs, seats to toolsa. Click through the various links to see more information, and to search further to find the part you need to get your Triumph in working order.

It is Cheaper to Restore a Triumph Yourself Than Find One in Mint Condition

Most vintage Triumph motorcycles are not in mint condition. This is due to Triumphs being used for riding. A true Triumph owner is not going to let his or her bike sit around and gather dust, so in most cases you will have to restore an old Triumph piece by piece, bit by bit.

There is a lot of satisfaction in doing this though. This makes a vintage bike really yours, when you spend hours looking for parts and restoring each piece. If you do not want to do this yourself, you can take it to a restoration expert to do for you, but if you do, you will have to pay for the labor hours that they put in.

Making Sure You Find Parts for The Right Model

It is best if you buy a guide to restoring a vintage Triumph motorcycle before you get started. That way you can research the parts you are missing, and the right parts for each model year. Just like cars, bikes change parts due to efficiency, power, and durability. As the cost of materials change, so do the materials that parts are made from.

Triumph parts are highly sought after by collectors, so it is possible that some of the parts that may be missing from your model are expensive. Look around and compare prices and availability before you buy to see what is a fair price.

Researching the Triumph Logo and Paint Colors

Triumph Logo Belt Buckle

When people restore vintage bikes, they often want to have an authentic looking vehicle from the model year that it was made. To do this, you will need to find a picture of the original bike, or do some research in vintage and restoration guides. I have listed some specific guides to restoring Triumphs below. You can look for more on Amazon by clicking through the links.

Your other option is to apply a new paint job to the bike that pleases you. This does not have to be the original colors.

British Triumph Gear

For collectors, not only the British Triumph motorcycles are collectible, but also the advertising signage, logo signage, and Triumph gear. Lots of people like to display their collection of advertising in a special room or garage with their collection of bikes.

License plates, metal signs, plastic signs, and electric lit signs are all possible collectibles.

And in addition, there are lots of Triumph logo wearables that are collectible, like ball caps, jackets, and shirts with the various versions of the Triumph logo throughout the years.

Protecting Your Vintage Triumph

Once you start restoring your vintage Triumph, do not forget to keep the project covered in between the times you work on it. A tarp, or keeping it in a special spot in your garage will keep it from getting further weathered, and rusty. In most cases, sandblasting the finish will be your first step to getting the bike back to its original glory, and to do it right you will have to completely take the entire bike apart and clean each piece.

This is a time consuming project, but a project of love that will fill your spare hours, and result in a perfectly restored vintage Triumph motorbike.
