The Easter Holiday season begins on Ash Wednesday which falls on 3/9/11. Easter is the holiest of Christian holidays. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. This year Easter Sunday is 4/24/11.

As has happened with other holidays, businesses have lessened the religious impact of this holiday and commercialized it beyond belief. The Easter Bunny has surpassed Jesus in the reason to celebrate the season. Easter baskets loaded with candy and toys start to fill store shelves before Valentine's Day has passed.

Yes. It's the only way we celebrate it now that the kids are gone. We did used to decorate the eggs and hide candy in the morning, but I don't think we credited the Easter Bunny. When I was a child it paid to beleive in the Easter Bunny, so I did. I am not sure at what age I because aware of the real meaning of Easter, but since I was raised in a church it must have been fairly early.

I manage to get Good Friday off but have to work on Easter Sunday. However, the cross is rarely far from my mind any day but it lingers a little closer at Easter, for sure.
