Vintage Engagement Rings

When a young couple are considering getting engaged, the guy will often think about getting his girlfriend a new engagement ring rather than something a little older.  However if you are asking your girlfriend to marry you and are looking for something that is a little less expensive and come with their own charm and are often completely unique in design.  Then why not consider getting a vintage engagement ring instead.  Generally vintage engagement rings are those which are considered to be more than 50 years old.

As you will often discover when it comes to getting a vintage engagement ring over something a little more newer and modern.  These particular rings are actually much better made and will have often been made by a craftsman who has studied for years to produce such beautiful items of jewelry.  But not only are they better made there are many different styles of rings you are able to choose from and below are some of the styles you may want to take into consideration.

Victorian Engagement Rings

This would have been made between 1835 and 1900 and will often have the stones set in either yellow or rose colored gold. Some of their designs are very simple to look at whilst others can be quite intricate. Also you will find that because of the Industrial Revolution and many people were much wealthier then diamonds were becoming a common feature in many engagement rings at this time. Whilst there are other engagement rings from this period of time that would have had pearls inset into them. The most classic design of all was produced by Tiffany's and contained a diamond solitaire which had six prongs to it and first came in to being in 1886.

Edwardian Engagement Rings

These were being made by jewellers between 1900 and 1920 and due to the invention of the oxyacetylene torch many were of these were using platinum rather than gold as the base of their rings. As you will discover these particular engagement rings are much more intricate and ornate in their designs but not only were they using diamonds in their designs they were also using sapphires as well. In fact sapphires as part of the overall design of any engagement ring were very popular during the Edwardian period.

Conclusion

It is important that you look carefully at the craftsmanship and design of any vintage engagement rings before you make your purchase. It is best that you avoid any rings today that try to copy the styles of the kinds of rings found during the above periods. Instead it is much less expensive for you to purchase one that was made at the time. Plus any new ring you see will certainly not be able to match the quality and style of the rings from these periods.
