Vintage Crochet: Bring more romance into your life

There is a certain appeal to vintage crochet.

Seems like anything older than a few years gets to be called vintage! In fact, the dictionary lists the following definitions of vintage - outside of those related to wine-making, that is:

1) representing the high quality of a past time, ie vintage cars, vintage movies
2) old-fashioned or obsolete, ie vintage jokes
3) being the best of its kind

The definition of vintage is quite wide open! Doing a search on eBay for vintage crochet, I was returned a few items labeled vintage 80's. Crazy flashbacks.

Vintage crochet can be anything from way back when they first started recording crochet patterns right up to a few years ago.

Some of my favorite examples of vintage crochet is edging on towels, pillowcases and other household linens. This type of embellishment is simple to replicate with some No. 10 crochet thread and a 1.50 mm hook. A simple fan or picot edging adds a special Victorian or shabby chic charm to your decor.

“My favorite part is the crocheted antique purses - they are so incredibly delicate..”

Vintage Crochet Patterns: Where to Find Them

Vintage crochet items can be purchased through flea markets, eBay, garage sales and thrift stores but, If you're like me, you prefer to create your own vintage crochet looks by grabbing thread and hook and making your own heirlooms.

Authentic vintage crochet patterns can be hard to find, but Laynee Jenkins has done all the hard work for us.

Crochet Magazines on eBay

Sometimes the oldies are the goodies. Check crochet forums if you're looking for something particular. Often they'll refer to these back issues of Magic Crochet or other magazines and if you're not a pack rat like my mom, eBay is the next best place to find these back issues.
