My Favorite Holiday - Halloweeeeeeen!

If you collect Vintage Halloween memorabilia or are just thinking about it or like to look at them, I hope you enjoy this lens. And if you want the best guide to Halloween Collectibles, be sure to look into the book featured here.

Halloween is only a week after my birthday and less than one week before my sister's, so when we were growing up my mother would frequently throw us a combined Halloween/Birthday party instead of doing two separate birthday parties.  I think this is how my birthday has become completely entwined with the holiday and to be honest, now that I'm in my 40s, I'd much rather celebrate Halloween than my birthday :)

I love pretty much everything vintage and retro, especially holiday stuff, but I particularly adore Vintage Halloween items. My favorites are the Halloween postcards. There is just something so darling about them.

Vintage German Halloween Collectibles

Between the two World Wars many of the Halloween decorations purchased in the US were manufactured in Germany strictly for export. You'll also find that a lot of the items are handmade and they look quite a bit different than the mass manufactured decorations made today.

Popular German Halloween decorations include die-cuts, Halloween vegetable people, lanterns and candy dishes.

Vintage Empire Plastics Halloween Items

One popular type of hard plastic is the various blow mold items made. The blow mold process was used to create hollowed out decorations that can stand on their own (often with lighting inside), but it was also used to create the trick or treat pails that we used to carry as kids -- the big grinning Jack O'Lantern.

Empire Plastics is one company that is well known for their blow mold holiday items and so a lot of their vintage Halloween blow molds have become quite collectible.
