Using Vintage Patterns For Today's Styles

T
oday's fashions, and more importantly your own unique style, can be made using vintage patterns. Vintage knitting and crochet patterns often are superior in design and detail. You have only to provide the color and texture and a few customizations that make it all yours.

Popular Vintage Bed Jacket Pattern Translates Into Many New Looks

Classic or Funky? You Decide.

S
ure, the old patterns cycle around in different eras, but it's up to you whether they become classic or funky. When you see an old pattern do you see the new latest trend, or retro fashion, or your own unique style? We live in a time where all of these fashion statements are correct.

So whether you simply work the pattern up into a timeless classic, or customize it into something uniquely original is up to your own personal fashion sense.

Antique and Vintage Patterns to Knit or Crochet

F
rom bed jackets to structured suits, vintage patterns can be used in endless ways. The above featured bed jacket, for instance, has been made softly romantic as in the photo above, but it can also be translated into a more businesslike career suit when it's done in darker colors and sturdier textures.

The angled bolero jacket pictured here was originally more of a designer jacket for society functions, but today would be used either for business or casual, dressed up or down with the pin or button that holds it together, wrapped tight or loosely at the neck. In soft yarns it could even go the other way and become a bed jacket.

Vintage jackets, capes, shrugs, boleros and camisoles all make fun wear, business wear or formal wear depending on your own unique interpretation.
