Flashdance was a popular eighties film that had a big impact on womens fashion with its funky styles that brought professional dancewear such as leggings and leg warmers to the streets. Colorful leotards, ripped oversized sweaters and sweatshirts worn off the shoulder and flashy eighties boots still look great today when put together right.

These Members Only jackets aren't quite as exclusive as the name implies, in fact back in the 80s pretty much every male had at least one of these colorful and sporty jackets. My favorite was baby blue and my brother had a shiny red one - what a show off! This brand has recently been resurrected as an upscale label but don't fall for their overpriced remakes of these superior vintage originals!

For years blue jeans were considered basic work wear but that all changed in the eighties with the introduction of upscale designer jeans. New form fitting styles featured embroidery, piping along seams and the designers label on the back pocket. Expensive advertising campaigns from Calvin Klein, Guess and Jordache competed for attention and dollars with sexy ads on billboards, tv and magazines.

Yes, acid wash was a big trend in the eighties but here's a little secret - it sucked back then and it still sucks now! Acid wash was never cool, it was a trashy alternative to fashionable designer jeans and spread like a disease through cut rate department stores and suburban malls but no one with style would ever touch it. Risky Business - Tom Cruise in Wayfarers
Classic 80s Sunglasses
Tom Cruise had a few signature looks in the 1983 movie Risky Business. First was the now classic pairing of causal white t-shirt and jeans with a business blazer and second his famous Wayfarer sunglasses that appeared in most marketing material such as the poster and video box. These classic shades were popular in many variations from the standard Wayfarer black and tortoiseshell to lower quality knockoffs in white, colors or with neon arms. The neon arm ones are fun and can glow under club lighting but white and black have more class.

- Arm and leg warmers are still a little popular today. Ugh I cringe when I look at arm warmers being worn when it's not even cold out. Members Only jacket I remember wearing one of those.

- Man, I remember the whole "leg warmers" craze; it was so funny! I actually used to wear a pair of green legwarmers to go with my Catholic School uniform during the winter months. Leg warmers were also popular with exercise gurus; every single woman in those aerobics tapes wore a pair of those, coupled with a headband.
You're right about "acid wash." Even back then it was considered kind of tacky.
