Using Twitter As Viral Tool

Referring to my blog post " How to get more Twitter Followers " I will like to continue the journey on How to effectively utilize twitter as a marketing tool ?

Twitter is a perfect viral marketing site and yes it do has great viral power. This Viral Power of twitter if used properly can actually make new comer a professional blogger. But the scene is people don't utilize twitter as a service or a tool, and make common mistakes.

Twitter in addition to internet marketeer or blogger like me, is also used by many people whom i consider are not equipped with the techniques of internet marketing. These people need content and good content, but content is hardly provided by everyone. These people go on twitter in a hope that they will find someone who will tweet about topics which the need. These are the people whom we call traffic.

Now how are you going to bring that traffic into your site. Just imagine twitter as a stock market news channel. Many companies are exist in the stock market , and these companies keep giving news to the news channel. Refer yourself as a small company. Of course bigger companies are heard loud in the news but yes small companies do have a smaller section in the entire broadcast of news channel. You will be heard by some people watching the news. Now imagine this if the people watching you, are also having companies like yours. Now if any company likes you and starts following you it becomes a news again. This is the Viral Power of Twitter.

Today everyone uses digg, twitter is also termed as a social bookmarking website as Digg. Lets compare digg and twitter. What happens when you digg any web page, the rank of that page in digg is increased or updated. Why does it matters? It matters because of 2 reasons - First the person digging can come back to the page because that page will be bookmarked in his Digg profile, and secondly when the rank of that page increases other users also develop a keen interest in taking a look at that page giving additional traffic for that web page.

In Twitter , if anyone tweets about any topic , now it depends upon the number followers of that user that how much viral that tweet can go. Let me give you a simple trick , whenever anyone follows you, you do follow him. Now whenever he tweets, just retweet it and reply to him. After sometime you will see him retweeting your tweets. Unlike Digg you don't have to wait for anyone redigging your post, OR let me give you another trick.

On Twitter keep following bloggers, as you know bloggers are good diggers, Now whenever that blogger whom you follow, writes a blog post, digg it, tweet it and make him know about it. After some time you will see those diggs coming back to you.

Another simple Viral Twitter and Digg Marketing Strategy.

Twitter is viral because of retweets. With retweets one can increase twitter followers but only of those for whom he is retweeting, isn't it. Say A tweet something and B retweet it, the only benefit of retweeting is being received by A because his link and profile will now be known by the followers of B. What is the use of retweeting for B?

There is a big and a bright use. B is able to build a better profile by retweeting.

How?

We on twitter are always keen on searching for people who tweet according to what we like and our interests. Say we are a tech expert, and suppose we are JAVA programmer we will love to follow another senior java programmer or a person running a java tutorial blog.

So how we come to know who tweets about java, Of course by searching twitter and checking all the recent tweets by that person. This is called profile management on twitter.

That's why when we retweet other people searching for a particular topic will get to know about us and will follow us if they find us tweeting what they want.

Thus giving us a viral targeted twitter following.

Twitter users are hungry for latest happenings. That's what twitter is all about "What are you doing ?". Theirs an amazing strategy to get huge amount of retweets and a large followings by tweeting a news. People on twitter do follow this strategy , lot of them are wrong and some are right.

People tweet news and they tweet it directly from New York Times or techcruch. How many times have you seen any news from techcruch getting into a retweet flood, of course a lot of times.

What you need to do is to write a news as a post on your blog and tweet it. And if got lucky it will get into the retweet flood as a big wave. And if you find any other blogger also tweeting the same but written on his blog and linking to his blog post, be patient, scratch your head and speak to yourself "Am I doing anything wrong in comparing myself with techcrunch and nytimes ?"

If you find the answer as "Yes" , then you are not wrong, it needs a lot of luck. But keep trying.

If I am not wrong are you not always interested in reading some tutorials which you find good , like "how to bake pizzas?", "do you know how to repair your car?" or "learn how to build your own helicopter?".

I know that I will never bake any of my Pizza because I have Mc-D , I won't ever need to repair my car because I don't have one and never ever I am going to get a chance to repair bill gates helicopter. But yes I am always interested in knowing about all these things. This is a human behaviour and you can not change it. So why not take advantage of it.

Create some good tutorial regarding anything except how to increase twitter followers because I have already one. And just tweet it or direct message to some expert blogger. Without any doubt you are on.

But (who created this word "BUT", its very annoying) not every tutorial goes viral, you have to be unique and write some content that should force people to read it and retweet it, other wise in this time of recession their are lot of unemployed trainers around, got it. You got it wrong, just take it otherwise - their are lot of talented and qualified unemployed people on twitter today waiting to know "how to do it?" Normal Human Behaviour.

( hmmmmm, how can every tutorial be unique @IDEA@ create a search engine algo better than google. write it in your blog and tweet it to me )

Do you know that twitter existed in 1700 AD. If you don't know (which is of course) you must continue reading.

In the Year 1700 AD when if anyone spoke that one day we will need a mouse to do most of our work, was hanged to death ,at that time twitter was in existence. Even when humans were roaming in jungles to get food , yet twitter existed. How?

Traders around 1700 AD used to visit different countries to purchase products from farmers , artisans etc, then they used to bring these products back to their countries to sell them from local traders to local shop keepers, who used to sell those products in their towns or villages. And this chain was all over the world.

Once the crops produced by farmers were destroyed by flood, and a trader passing by came to know about it. He sent a message to his trader friend that -

"Prices of wheat are going to rise - start saving"

this message was transferred again to the local traders then to the local shopkeepers and then to the local consumer - worldwide. Completely Viral.

The first trader who send the message was given prize by the king but contribution of every other single person whether local trader or shop keeper was also appreciated.
