Viral Marketing Can Send Your Profits Soaring

Viral marketing is you take an idea, in this case, it revolves around a marketing concept, and send it out into the World Wide Web for increased views and buzz.

When something goes viral, it gets shared freely by your demographic.

Usually, videos are the form of media that go viral, but you can also set an audio file or text file to become viral, too. Viral freebies can generate a lot of traffic and sales into your affiliate marketing coffers, so it pays to learn the ropes and leverage it for your own business.

Usually, what you see going viral is some funny video - or something shocking - that has people talking about. It's the "I can't believe what they did" factor. But what if your niche is trout fishing? Or weddings on a budget?

How do you create something shareable for your demographic without happening to be at the right place at the right time with a video camera to catch something unusual? Many viral videos aren't funny, or shocking - they're just valuable!

You don't need expensive video equipment, paid professionals to act in your videos, or a lot of money to create a peer-to-peer viral video that others will want to pass along to like-minded friends and acquaintances.

Viral Video Options and Opportunities for Affiliates

Making a viral video when you're an affiliate marketer is really simple. You probably already do text reviews of the products you promote, so why not capture the computer screen and show the product in action (without giving anything away, of course)?

You can showcase your success with a product. Let's say you're promoting an eBook about building a Squidoo lens, for example. You can make a quick screen capture video that shows your finished product while you discuss how easy it was to make.

You can then show your online earnings thanks to the Squidoo lens creation, or give some additional tips you learned about making a lens work that aren't found in the eBook itself!

Use Camtasia or another similar software tool to create viral videos that generate a flood of traffic to your domain.

If you upload them to YouTube, make sure your description includes a hyperlink to your landing page so that you can capture contact information before funneling your targeted traffic on to the affiliate offer you're touting.

List Building From the Ground Up

Using Text as Your Viral Conduit

Text is much easier to create for affiliate viral use, but it may not be quite as effective as video.

A viral text product can be something simple - like a free tip sheet, a 5-page report, or even a full-length eBook.

When you create viral text products, you want to make sure you include your affiliate links in them. You could have a single free, viral Internet marketing guide 10 pages long, with each page touting a different idea to do with Internet marketing.

On each page, weave in your affiliate links for the products you'd like to promote that teach the whole nuts and bolts of the concept. For example - one of your pages might talk about the importance of Web 2.0 marketing and Squidoo. While you discuss why it's important, you don't teach how. Let your affiliate links do that work for you.

Another page could discuss the important of building a list. Your affiliate links to Aweber or other autoresponder tools could help beef up your commissions. As the free viral guide gets shared to others, your income increases because the link exposure grows.

If the guide is well-written and provides valuable information, your conversions will be better. If it's poorly written, the readers won't trust your recommendations as much and the viral element will be wasted.

If you have your own membership site, make sure you notify them whenever you have a freebie they're allowed to share. Some won't do it without your permission.

What Is Viral Marketing?

Viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use preexisting social networks to produce increases in brand awareness, through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses. It can be word-of-mouth delivered or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet.

Viral marketing is a marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message voluntarily. Viral promotions may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, ebooks, brandable software, images, or even text messages.

It is claimed that a satisfied customer tells an average of three people about a product or service he/she likes, and eleven people about a product or service which he/she did not like.

Viral marketing is based on this natural human behavior.

The goal of marketers interested in creating successful viral marketing programs is to identify individuals with high Social Networking Potential (SNP) and create Viral Messages that appeal to this segment of the population and have a high probability of being passed along.

The term "viral marketing" is also sometimes used pejoratively to refer to stealth marketing campaigns May 8, 2007--the use of varied kinds of astroturfing both online and offline December 14, 2005 to create the impression of spontaneous word of mouth enthusiasm.
