What is the Virtual Concert Series?

The Virtual Concert Series is another brain child of Anne Reidy, Squidoo's Non-profit Organizer.

What if you could host a benefit concert? You have a cause that's important to you.

What better way to have it announced than by your favorite performer in a room full of people who paid big bucks to get there?

Start off by answering these simple questions:

If I were going to host a benefit concert for one of my favorite charities...
  1. Who would you ask to be at the concert?
  2. Who would you pick?
  3. What cause would you raise money for?
  4. Who gets the benefit at this benefit concert?
  5. Which album would you ask the person or the band to play?

Pick a Group, Pick a Charity
Stage a Virtual Concert

What's in the Virtual Concerts Series Lens?

The Squidoo Activist's Rock Star Squid or a Squidoo Rockstar

Introducing our own Rock Star Squid or a Squidoo Rockstar designed especially for the Squidoo Activist's Virtual Concert Series.

Feel free to include the Rock Star Squid or Squidoo Rockstar on your lenses, but please do not use it as the main graphic in the introduction module.

We want to make sure that we have a variety of images used for the Virtual Concerts.

Questions to Ask Yourself if You Get Stumped Picking a Band or Person

Here are just a few questions you can ask yourself if you discover you are stumped for a Band, a Group or a Person to feature.
  1. What is the type of music you listen to?
  2. Who would I want to see in the spotlight?
  3. Who would you want to see take the stage?
  4. Who would you love to see, see again, or see back again (if that person was still alive) in concert?
  5. Who would be the best band or person to help you raise funds for your cause?
  6. What music moves you?
  7. Who rocks my world (musically)?
  8. Who makes you "Rock Out"?

Who Can Join in the Virtual Concert Series?

The Squidoo Activist's Virtual Concert Series is open to anyone who wants to make a lens.

Simply make a lens and make sure that the proceeds are set at 100% to benefit the Squidoo Charity Fund or one of the other official Squidoo Charities.

More Squidoo Musicians

Since the Virtual Concert is open to all types of musical genres, I decided we needed a few more Musical Squids to meet the needs of the other types of music.

More Musical Squids for the Virtual Concert Series

I got so I was making so many musical squids that they ended up being collected together in one lens.

I've got a Virtual Concert lens, now what?

1. Submit your lens to the Virtual Concert Group, the Bands that Give Back and if you are an Activist to the Squidoo Activist Group.

2. Get in touch with a Squidoo Activist and have them submit the lens to Anne.

3. 3. Submit your lens to the Add Your Virtual Concert to the List Plexo (Note that the plexo is a bit wiggy this morning, but add it anyway.)

4. Visit the other Virtual Concerts that other people have created, rate them, favorite them and leave a message.

Submit Your Virtual Concert Lens to these Groups

Note that the Squidoo Activist Lens is only available to current activists. The Charity Giants are available to Giant Squids.

Another option is to submit your lens to the Giving Back / Altruism Group

The Winners - An Unknown and an Activist

Anne has spoken about the Winners for the Virtual Concert.
This week I would like all of you to nominate the winner from outside the Activist group - winner will get LoTD and $100 to their favorite charity. And of course the nominating Activist will get a special shout out. Traffic traffic traffic AND the great feeling you get from helping another person.

Who are we looking for? The known, the unknown, the creative, the knowledgeable. You guys know a good lens when you see it!

Nominations to me by Sunday evening and LoTD will be Monday.
Remember for this challenge we are looking for an unknown.

Great Idea.

aj2008 says:

This is a great idea as although I'm sure most of us would like to be there in person, a lot of us would not be able to afford the tickets or the transport!

beachbum_gabby says:

cool and great idea, looking forward for this!

JenniferAkers says:

This will be a lot of fun! What a creative idea to do more good stuff while enjoying a variety of musical talent! :-)

OhMe says:

It will be fun to see what everybody does.

ebay-grandma says:

Love the Squid Musicians. The Fiddler is top notch!

I'd rather be there in person.

GypsyPirate says:

Virtual concerts are an awesome idea - but given the choice, you betcha I want to be there in person. Front row!

How to Make a Virtual Concert Lens

Making lens to contribution to the Virtual Concert Lens is simple. All it just takes is just a little bit of time. To get started:
    1. Pick your favorite band, group or person as the focus of your Virtual Rock Concert or Virtual Concert.

Start by clicking the "Make a Lens" button on this page.

    2. Be sure that you select your favorite charity, like the Squidoo Charity Fund, as the beneficiary for the lens Payment Options.

    3. Add a Text Module to Plug the Virtual Concert Series. See the next module below.

    4. Publish your lens.
Please be sure that you submit a quality lens and no "adult" rated lenses. We are trying to generate funds for a good cause.

Virtual Concert Week on Squidoo

Music to Raise Money = A Good Time By All

U2 talks about the One Campaign in every concert they have. Coldplay talks about Oxfam International. A stage with thousands of screaming adoring fans is a good time to promote a good cause.

Remember "We Are the World"? Farm Aid? Band Aid? All hosted to raise money for causes. How? Bands got together to perform, raise awareness and donate money. What a great idea!

Summer is concert season. It seems like all bands go on tour. Nothing like live music on a warm summer night!

What if you could host a benefit concert? You have a cause that's important to you. What better way to have it announced than by your favorite performer in a room full of people who paid big bucks to get there?

This is the point of the Virtual Concert Week on Squidoo.

Who would you pick and what cause would you raise money for? Make a lens and tell us about it!

Singing the Truest Form of Communication

Singing brings out in me what I can't normally bring out in everyday life.
It's an incredible feeling to be able to bare your soul to people you've never met in a way that can make them understand so clearly what you mean.
That's what I love most about singing ... it becomes my truest form of communication.

Josh Groban

I did manage to get a Virtual Concert lens made for Josh Groban.

What Music Moves You?

Other Options for a Virtual Concert

The Virtual Concert Series isn't limited to Rock Groups or Rock Bands, especially if this type of music isn't your thing.

Think about the type of music that moves you or speaks to you. For me that artist is Josh Groban, who is considered to be a classical crossover.

If you prefer another style of music classical, pop, jazz, country, hip-hop, opera or classical crossovers, make a Virtual Concert for your favorite musician or musical group.

Are you making a Virtual Concert Lens?

Thanks to the Grammy tribute to Dean Martin I was able to freshen up the lens and get some renewed interest. If any of you get a chance, please visit, favorite and rate the lens. It's close to getting back to the Top 2000 and I would love it if it would earn some money this month for charity. Rap Pack vs. Rat Pack

RAT PACK VIRTUAL CONCERT
There were so many fabulous songs to choose from that it was tough to narrow them down into one concert but I ended up focusing on a lot of duet and live performances that you don't often hear on the radio. Was much fun putting together. Thanks for the inspiration.

Benefiting the Squidoo Charity Fund and Two HIV / AIDS Charities

This group benefits the Squidoo Charity Fund (34%), AIDS Research Alliance (33%)and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (33%).

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation seeks to prevent pediatric HIV infection and to eradicate pediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs.

AIDS Research Alliance searches for ways to stop new HIV infections and find a cure to AIDS. They are conducting research on a larger, more diverse variety of AIDS treatments than any other community-based organization.
