Have extra time on your hands? Surveys are a great way to earn extra cash.

Average survey participants can make, on average between $50 and $500 per month - but it greatly depends on your demographics and how much time you spend.

Some surveys are geared towards young moms. Other surveys, for seniors. And others, for men. It depends on the survey site, the company behind the survey and the focus of the survey.

Realistically? Most surveys are geared towards the younger demographic (25-35) with some survey companies now targeting teen and young adult consumers (12-24). But there are plenty of surveys out there for people of all ages.

Me? I earn about $100 a month taking surveys. It's taken me over a year to find out which surveys take the least amount of time but pay the most. I'm sharing what I've learned so far while posting great survey opportunities along the way.

Legitimate work at home opportunites are offered by companies who offer average to better than average wages in exchange for your services - whether it be typing, other office work or scheduling appointments.

However, if the compensation greatly exceeds what a company would normally pay for the job, or if the ads claims that the work is easy, look out.

Stuffing envelopes at home for $1,000 a week? Telemarketing from home for $200 a day? Typing jobs that promise financial independence? If these so-called opportunities really existed, we'd all be at home getting incredibly rich doing next to nothing!

Ignore classified ads in your local paper (and Craigslist) that make outrageous claims. These ads almost always include a long distance or 800 number and (for some strange reason) lots of exclamation points.

Use common sense. If it sounds too good to be true, there's a 99.9% chance that it is.

There are plenty of legitimate offers out there. There's no need to waste your time on empty promises!
