Biggest Catch of Virtual Real Estate Business
Many VRE gurus don't like to tell you the whole story. There is one big catch in this business...
But majority of gurus manipulate your attention and don't tell you the whole story. Because they want to sell you product or service. They don't lie, but they manipulate your attention telling you the advantages of this business, focus on how their product/service can help to get bigger profits...
BUT
Gurus hate telling you about this catch...
They don't tell you that once you have created a web site (read = paid for domain, hosting design, for some unique content, for installation of some scripts OR have done it yourself and invested your personal time) - this is just the BEGINNING OF YOUR REGULAR EXPENSES!
And for many of the things you'll have to pay regularly, every month or even sooner.
I mean:
- your site must grow with fresh content several times a week ($5 per one article/content + money on creating this page);
- your site must build quality links (some say that if you created good content it's enough to start getting backlinks; yes, it's enough, but you can wait months and sometimes years before other start linking (I am the member of many SEO and IM forums and almost daily see newbies who whine about that)) - and link costs are $1+ per single reciprocal link and $10+ per single one way link;
- you must market it as a business because it IS a business (promote, create lenses, share on niche forums, work with affiliates, etc.).
You can do it yourself, but if you run 3-5 web sites at a time, you will have no time for the family, means you will need to hire other people. And this hits your ROI (return on investment).
Of course gurus hate telling it. Because the potential purchaser of their product/service will understand that he/she will need to buy other products/services, and take the money out of the pocket every month.

Example of "guru" not telling the whole story on Squidoo
Today I saw a guy who is a perfect example of not telling the whole story about VRE
As you saw in my example above, most of the people who rush to sell you something in VRE say that it is very easy to succeed in this business. This is the quote of what I saw today on Squidoo: "find a niche, make a list of keywords, build your website with content based on your keywords, insert your Adsense code in strategic places on your website, upload to the web and presto! Away you go!"
It's not that easy!
In this formula one element is lost - it is work like heck to GET STABLE AND TARGETED TRAFFIC TO THE SITE. Because without traffic no one will be clicking AdSenses in the strategic places.
And it is not enough to create site with good content to see it getting traffic. You will have to wait at least several months before other sites PROBABLY will link back to your site. And on many forums (WarriorForum.com, SEOChat.com, etc.) I see lots of people who created sites with content and waited for close to ONE YEAR and saw almost no traffic!!
Ok, how you can get traffic:
- buy traffic (PPC or other types of purchased traffic), but once you stop paying for it - traffic stops, vaporizes;
- use SEO - build links, do optimization of all pages to be SEO friendly - but it takes huge efforts or money on the salary to the people who will do it;
- market the site - promote it on niche forums, blogs, social networks, social bookmarks, Squidoo lenses, find affiliates and JV partners, do co-promotions, etc.
You see - only one element was missing in the formula to successful site, but it turns out this very element is about huge job/expenses, regular job/expenses. Of course, potential purchaser should know about this element of the puzzle (that will cost him a fortune every month) BEFORE the PURCHASE!

Believe me, the example that I made on this Squidoo lense is just one from the heap of similar manipulations. They just don't share the whole picture where you will have to pay a lot to be really successful. And many people lose trust in Virtual Real Estate because they are told it's peanuts, it's easy.
