Queenie Moriarty, Marriage Maestra

So many people have jobs in Second Life, jazz musicians, artists, 3D builders, creators of virtual goods such as jewellery, clothing and shoes. It takes a special talent to design these amazing objects, a talent which I lack.

Instead of trying to keep up with these designers and builders, I use the skills which I already have - creating ceremonies and public speaking.

So I have the very best job possible in Second Life and I'm in constant contact with happy people.

Happiness is contagious.

Second Life

Don't know Second Life?

Second Life (abbreviated as SL), the MMORPG 3D interactive virtual reality programme now has over one and half million members (residents).

Many of these residents enjoy the Ceremonies I create for them .. and I now have over one and a half thousand wedding ceremonies under my belt.

Second Life is not a Game

People take it very seriously

If this sounds a little crazy, let me assure you that is is.

I actually make a modest income from creating a memorable wedding ceremony in a virtual world.

People are very serious about their existence in-world, they invest a lot of time (and often a lot of money) in their personal virtual representations. They don't have just 'avatars' wandering about, they have an extension of their own self interacting with other very real people.

It's not a game. Second Life is only Real Life with a digital interface.

Introducing my Avatar, Queenie Moriarty

A lot of people take the opportunity to dress up for weddings in a way that they can never do in real life (RL).

I've come across a lot of women who just love to dress up. It's a little like playing with dolls, all those absolutely fabulous frocks, and what's the loveliest of outfits that any woman can wear? A gorgeous Wedding Gown of course.

Let me tell you, all brides are beautiful, in any world, virtual or otherwise.

Who gets married in SL?

I've created wedding ceremonies for people who are actually are married in RL, and the online celebration is the icing on the (wedding) cake.

Then there are the couples separated by work commitments or military service and have to live in different parts of the world. Second Life is a place that they can talk to each other - after all it's just an enhanced chat programme - and a wedding ceremony in SL is right up their alley.

Of course, there are the people who actually meet online.

I was thrilled when I first officiated at a Renewal Ceremony of a couple I had married in 2007. They had met inworld, and discovered much in common. Since then I've had the great pleasure of presiding over many anniversaries. Can I remind you that happiness is catching?

Lasting friendships are made in SL and Love can be found in all sorts of places.

Love is Love

No matter what world you're in

I married this couple - and created a Commitment Ceremony for their first anniversary

My Virtual Cathedral, Ave Stella Maris.

There's room in any world for an old fashioned Church Wedding.

My beautiful cathedral, Stella Maris, won a prestigious award for best church build in SL.

As you can gather from the name, the cathedral overlooks the ocean.

Hey Girlfriend, Best SL Group Ever

More fun than on your own

It's more fun in a group. You get to see more, learn more and shop till you drop at the same time!

When I get a break from the excitable brides and the shy grooms, I like to hang out with a few other women and listen to some cool jazz. Sometimes, in a wild moment, I will go jetski racing although I prefer to try on pearl necklaces in a mermaid grotto. But half the pleasure comes from doing it with others.

I recommend joining a group of like-minded avatars. I was one of the original members of Hey Girlfriend when there were less than one hundred of us. I've seen it grow to the immensely popular Group of Choice for anyone who likes fashion, freebies and fabulous deals. And who doesn't enjoy a good chat with girlfriends?

Everyone loves Second Life

Even my Cat is a Gamer!

In Second Life, as in Real Life, I enjoy the company of my little black cat.

This virtual moggy is Boris, a wonderful bundle of organic scripting and reminiscent of my blogging cat, Vladimir who is a lensmaster in his own right.

One day Vladi will write a lens about his own experiences as an Avatar in Second Life, but in the meantime you can browse through his Catography of a Feline LensMaster.

Come on, be honest

I find this so intriguing. I've certainly heard of Second Life, but I've never tried it or even looked at it, myself. I'm almost afraid to, because I hear and read (including your lens) that there's so much you can do with it. And I just know I'd probably get sucked in. Which maybe would be a good thing? Oh, I just don't know! Maybe when I have some time (ha!), I'll take a peek. You've really gotten my interest piqued even more now.

MMORPGs sound great, though I haven't even tried a single one! Yeah I suck! This will be the first game I would try out in case I get an outstanding internet connection. It sure looks entertaining...

I have not been an online "gamer". My husband already complains that I have messed the computer up with my Squidoo activities. Is 2nd Life a safe place?
