Visit Exeter, the capital of Devon

Lots of people visit Devon in the summer months, and they usually head straight to the beach resorts of Dawlish, Teignmouth and Torquay. This is all well and good, there are some lovely beaches in Devon, but why not take a trip to Exeter while you are down there.

There is a lot to see in Exeter, from the medieval Cathedral to the Norman Castle and gardens. The nightlife is buzzing due to the student population and the shopping is very good too.

For the chance to sit by the waterside, why not visit the rejuvenated quayside where you can enjoy some Devon Cream teas or a pint of Devon cider. In the summer, local jazz and brass bands play and the regatta is held, where dragon boat racing draws in the crowds.

For those who like a stroll, Coutryside Park is a riverside path that leads to some lovely pubs down by the river and in the summer its a great place to take the dogs. There are many walks like this around Exeter, though this is by far the most popular.

You will see that Exonians love nothing better than to chat with their friends on the many parks scattered about the city, when the sun is out you will see people flocking to Rougemont and the Cathedral green.

For those who like their sport, Exeter has a professional Football club, Exeter City and a Rugby Union side, the Exeter Chiefs. Tickets are cheap and the atmosphere is friendly and family orientated It makes a nice change form the big money teams elsewhere in the Country.

So come visit the capital of Devon, Exeter is more than a place to change trains!
