Let Your Imagination Bloom

In Windows Vista, you now have the option to add gadgets to your desktop. From searching the internet to checking the server status of your favorite game, keeping an eye on your e-mail, and perhaps just having a little fun, Vista gadgets can take you as far as your imagination can stretch.

What Is A Vista Gadget?

Information at the click of a mouse...

A Vista Gadget is like a tiny application that performs a certain function. It has a certain look, it uses the same technology as most websites, and it performs equally was well. While gadgets are made using technologies like HTML, JavaScript, and AJAX, it's important to note that not all gadgets require an internet connection to run.

What can you do with a gadget? Why, anything you want as long as you can script it! That's the beauty of this system, it is (like many things) limited only by your own imagination and ingenuity!

Vista gadgets can also be a significant resource hog. If your Vista system is running slow turn the gadgets off and see if it makes a difference in how responsive your system is. Performance impact can be more pronounced on Vista systems with only 1 - 2 GB of RAM.
