Saving Money On Healthcare Without Insurance
Ranked #43,139 in Healthy Living, #517,846 overall
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, (Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2005) there are 46.6 Million Americans without Health Insurance. According to the National Association of Dental plans, 45% of Americans (135.8 Million Americans) don't have Dental Insurance.
Why?
Employers are cutting subsidies, cutting benefits for retirees or cutting out some benefits altogether leaving people to fend for themselves.
What to do?
There are alternatives. Discount cards are Not Insurance, but many of them are issued by reputable companies and can save you real dollars on necessary, preventive and even cosmetic healthcare which is not covered by most insurance plans.
What to look for?
When selecting a discount card, make sure you are buying from a legitimate company.
How do you make sure the discount plan is legitimate?
Well, for starters, is the company public? Has it been in business for a long time?
If a Discount Medical Plan Organization (DMPO) license or registration is required, are they licensed or registered?
Does the company make their directory of participating doctors, dentists, etc available to you before taking your money? If not, beware!
Does the company allow you to pay with a credit card? or only an e-check? Beware if the company doesn't allow you to pay with a credit card. Purchasing with a credit card is extra protection for you if something goes wrong,
Does the company have a 30 day money back guarantee? Beware if they don't.
Does the company have a one time processing fee that is more then the regular annual fee? If so, beware!
Discounts cards aren't for everyone...but, they can save a lot of money on healthcare. If your doctor, or dentist, or pharmacy is not in the network and you aren't willing to switch...then a discount card is not for you.
If you have insurance and it covers everything you want and need, then you probably don't need a discount card.
Conversely, if you don't have insurance or your insurance is limited and your provider is in the network and you are dealing with a legitimate company...chances are you will save far more money with the card and the prices the company has negotiated than you could save by shopping around or negotiating the price yourself.

Card and Company - The Mouth-Body Connection
- You may have heard of the mind-body connection, but what about the mouth-body connection? To many people, a dental visit is about getting their teeth cleaned, having a tooth pulled or having a filling placed. However, a dental visit is not just about teeth. It is also about your overall health. What goes on in your mouth can affect the rest of your body, and what goes on in the rest of your body can have an effect on your mouth.
