I first encountered the books by Joe Vitale when, as a new writer, I picked up a copy of "Hypnotic Writing" (I needed to learn how to write such that folks picking up my computer manuals would actually read the things!). I discovered an amazing world--a world of writing that we never learned in English classes in elementary school, high school, or college!

Even during my previous years as a newspaper and magazine journalist, I hadn't found such a fantastic explanation of how hypnotic writing works. Then, I learned that Stanford University did a study of various authors to see who had writing that resembled "hypnotic writing"--and they came up with Agatha Cristie... her writing had a high-level of "hypnotic writing"! That's what makes them such "page turners"!

Later, as I got more experience as a writer-editor and more involved with using words to persuade readers toward desired actions (whether it's complying with regulations or operating a computer or other networking equipment correctly), I found some materials from AWAI--and in those materials, there was a seminar presented by Joe Vitale. Fantastic stuff. It will give you a whole new view on how words work.

Great lens on Joe Vitale!

Joe calls his style of writing "hypnotic" because it grabs you, drags you in and practically forces you to keep on reading and processing everything that he is talking about. He is indeed one of the best writers in our time.

Living on Guam is what now "defines" me.  It was such a dramatic difference in my life and outlook on things that there's no way I'd be the same if I had remained in New Mexico or any of the rest of the U.S. Mainland.   One of the classes I took at the University of Guam was "Scientific and Technical Writing and Editing"... I did not realize at the time that this class would be setting the foundation for the rest of my working life.  I found that I *love* words and fooling around with making them work as best as possible.  I also took classes in formal linguistics at the University of Guam--and took classes in Japanese, Russian, Mandarin Chinese. These classes helped me to become comfortable with working with translations of technical material into English from other languages.  I can help folks with making their words work for the particular audience they are writing for.
