Amino Acids are Good, Good Times

The body needs amino acids. Omegas, specifically omega 3 fatty acids come in supplemental form as fish oil pills.

Polar Bears Go Searching for Omegas

Omega 3 fatty acids are qualified as essential fatty acids necessary for child growth from birth to age 6. Less than 1% of a child's calories needs to come from omega 3's, but a lack of these acids can stunt normal growth and development.

For over thirty years there has been speculation over the benefits of omega 3's after childhood. Finally, in 2004, the FDA released an official statement on the health benefits of omegas, stating the found "supportive but not conclusive" evidence that taking omega 3 fatty acids (specifically as fish oils) reduced the chance of heart failure.

Omega 3's are commonly found as fish oil capsules, and fish oil capsules are perhaps the most saturated field of the vitamin market today other than the generic essentials multivitamin.

Many fish oil supplement companies claim omega 3's can improve brain memory, recall, and cognition as well as strengthen the body's support against cancer and psycho-traumatic diseases (depression). Many studies have supported these claims, though more research is needed to provide strong, conclusive evidence.

Omega 3's have come under scrutiny recently due to a scare over the mercury levels in omega 3 capsules. However, most omega 3 supplements made today are Rx quality or better, meaning they have been entirely purified leaving no mercury residue.
