Earl Mindell's New Vitamin Bible
25th Anniversary Edition
Earl Mindell's New Vitamin Bible
I had purchased Earl's bible at a used book store. Alas, it was from 1979. Even though it may have been "out of date" the information was right on! The Anniversary edition was just as good as I expected. The preliminary findings of some "vitamins" from 1979, were just as he wrote, the new bible just solidified the information. I take this information and compare with my other research, Earl is usually in-line. I don't believe anything verbatim, but this a great basis for natural health. I tell everyone who is interested in vitamins and natural supplements that this book is a MUST have in their library. - S. Tripp "Health Info Nut" (Mideast MO, USA)
It is a Great book. Comprehensive information, but easy to understand by the novice. Easy to find information and recommendations. It is a must text-reference book to have. Use vitamins wisely. Lean about vitamin compatibilities and when to take them. You may be wasting the value of vitamins and your money. - Marlene M. Gandy

Vitamin P - Bioflavanoids
Flavonoids (or bioflavonoids), also collectively known as Vitamin P and citrinhttp://dictionary.reference.com/browse/vitamin+p, are a class of plant secondary metabolites. According to the IUPAC nomenclature,Flavonoids (isoflavonoids and neoflavonoids)., IUPAC Compendium of Chemical Terminology they can be classified into:
*flavonoids, derived from 2-phenylchromen-4-one (2-phenyl-1,4-benzopyrone) structure (examples: quercetin, rutin).
*isoflavonoids, derived from 3-phenylchromen-4-one (3-phenyl-1,4-benzopyrone) structure
*neoflavonoids, derived from 4-phenylcoumarine (4-phenyl-1,2-benzopyrone) structure.
The three flavonoid classes above are all ketone-containing compounds, and as such, are flavonoids and flavonols. This class was the first to be termed "bioflavonoids." The terms flavonoid and bioflavonoid have also been more loosely used to describe non-ketone polyhydroxy polyphenol compounds which are more specifically termed flavanoids, flavan-3-ols, or catechins (although catechins are actually a subgroup of flavanoids).
Flavonoids (both flavonols and flavanols) are most commonly known for their antioxidant activity.
Flavonoids (specifically flavanoids such as the catechins) are "the most common group of polyphenolic compounds in the human diet and are found ubiquitously in plants". Flavonols, the original bioflavonoids such as quercetin, are also found ubiquitously, but in lesser quantities. Both sets of compounds have evidence of health-modulating effects in animals which eat them.
