Vivaldi: An Invitation to Virtuosity
It is said that an earthquake struck the city of Venice March 4, 1678. Antonio Lucio Vivaldi lived from March 4, 1678 to July 28, 1741. He was born in the City of Venice, the capital of the Republic of Venice.
Vivaldi's father, Giovanni Battista--a barber and professional violinist, taught him to play violin, and then toured Venice playing the violin with his young son. Battista was one of the founders of the Sovvegno dei musicisti di Santa Cecilia, a guild for musicians and composers.
