Vlad the Impaler
Vlad Tepes was a Wallachian leader who was known for his inhumane methods of torture. Tepes was known for impaling his victims. Other methods of torture included cutting off noses and ears, mutilating sexual organs, scalping, skinning, exposure to the elements of wild animals, and burning alive.
Vlad's reign in power was relatively short, but because of this infamous torture methods, vampire myths surrounded him. So, when he died, he was decapitated, as decapitation is one of the leading preventatives of vampirism.
Vlad Dracula was the basis for Bram Stoker's Dracula.

- I sincerely think that the people do not have right to judging or criticizing the persons who do not know. I am not from Romania but I consider Vlad to be a real hero. It(he,she) was doing everything possible to protect theirs. In addition, they were in war and, in these times, who was not killing is it(he,she) esascircunstancias? In these times it(he,she) continues killing itself in the wars to protect each one to his(her, your) country. What? And because of it, is the whole world cruel not? Each one has his(her, your) methods to scare and to be able to defend. To part(report), and what if he was a vampire? It(he,she) is as if you are of different race. The dogs for example. (And that is clear that I do not compare him with a dog, just is an example as(like) any other one). If one is an Alsatian dog and his(her, your) companion a Caniche, already is he a vampire? Only for being different. It is something that I do not consider to be just. To judge without being able to confirm it.

- In Romania Vlad is viewed as a national hero. And rightly so! So, he might have been cruel - but no crueler then the Ottomans or anyone else for that matter! He did great things and although he might not have been very fair he was certainly a just ruler. This guy was just doing his best to protect his kingdom, and I think a lot of the stories about terrible things he did are just rumors. Although he might have used some scare tactics.
Vlad is really awesome and wasn't even remotely vampire. I think Bram Stoker just pinched the name to make it sounds scary.
People should have way more respect for warriors, even if they were a bit nasty. Hey, you should read about all the horrible stuff King Arthur supposedly did!

- As Mouse has said, Prince Vlad did a lot for Romania at the time of his reign. It is not fair to say that Romanians had no reason to like him - he brought order to Romania in a time of chaos and insecurity due to the conflict in surrounding countries. He was a powerful leader and people obeyed him. Yes, he is remembered for his methods of torture, but many other leaders of the time probably used similar methods. Times have changed, as has war. These days, people shoot or bomb others. In Vlad's day, they impaled them. Who are we to make judgements?

- He is very much a hero and people would die for him today. He only spent two days in Bran and that was LOCKED UP! People need to have a little more respect for those that have done so much good for so many people. He wasn't a God, but he was MORE then a man. His memory still lives on in people all over the world that, just by his memory, he has helped. I know I am one of them. His methods to modern society were cruel yes, but then I think watching some dumb bimbo shake her tits on TV is worse. Or subjecting our children to people and programs that have no value and depth educationally. They will never help them grow as people and contributing members of society. Personally, if an intellegent person studys the Prince, his methods were pretty normal since EVERYONE ELSE AT THE TIME DID IT TOO!!!! And some where WORSE!!! Besides if it wasn't for Prince Vlad....Romania wouldn't be standing right now!!!!
