Volleyball is a sport that requires practice, practice, practice in order to be any good at it. In this lens we are going to explain how you can improve your skills or the skills of your team through the use of volleyball drills.

Volleyball is a challenging sport because each player must have strong individual skills and must be able to function with his or her team mates. Without both of these you will either get cut from the team or your team will get beaten at every match! One of the best ways to improve your volleyball skills is to practice drills during your training.

There are all kinds of drills that you and your team can do to improve your volleyball skills.

For starters, there are individual volleyball skills drills that focus on the technical aspects of serverving, setting, passing, hitting and blocking. These are particularly useful for youth or beginner volleyball players. (you can find a good drills starter pack here)

Players with descent individual skills need to work on their ability to function with other team mates in order to improve the team's performance. There are specific volleyball drills that can be introduced for this. Often these drills build on the basic drills of setting, passing, spiking, serving and blocking. But there are quite a few drills that are designed specifically for teams.

One word of warning about volleyball drills, and that is "Don't over use any single drill"! If you do, it can become boring and players will not be applying themselves and won't develop their skills. So it's critical to keep the variety up and whenever possible Keep It Fun. Players respond better and learn more when they are enjoying themselves!

Over the comming weeks, I'll be writing up drills so be sure to check back here to get them for free.
In the mean time, here are a few recommended links that contain volleyball drills that will keep your practice fun and exciting and all the while improving your volleyball skills.

Want to Play Volleyball in the US, Canada, UK or Australia?

First you have to enroll into a course.

For those of you that are outside of the US, Canada, UK or Australia and wish study and play volleyball, there are a few basic things you need to address. The first one is obviously the whole language issue that foreign students face. Most students under estimate the level of english language skill that is required to successfully complete their studies. This is one of the main reasons the International English Language Testing System or IELTS was created. Most english speaking countries now demand that foreign students undertake this test and achieve the requried band score before they are allowed to study in these countries.

So to achieve your dream of playing volleyball in US, Canada, UK or Australia, you must first successfully pass your IELTS. Read more about IELTS Testing and effective IELTS Preparation.
