Volleyball Passing Drills To Improve Player Reaction Times
Volleyball Drills - Passing
"The Pit"
This volleyball passing drill is mainly for reaction time and if you have assistant coaches, get them to help you out on this one. It's basically a one on one drill to help accuracy when passing off of the attack.
Get the player to stand in the middle back position. You stand at the net on the same side of the court facing the player. The goal is for the passer to get 10 good passes to the target area (where the setter would usually set from in a game) out of 20 balls.
Hit the ball at the player hard, just like a hit would be coming at them during a game. If your arm gets tired, let your assistants take turns this keeps the ball coming at the players hard every time.
Vary the hits a little to the left, right or a ittle short so they get used to reading hits, but keep them pretty dead on, just a little so they have to move to adjust to the ball.
As a motivator you could come up with some sort of
'discipline' for them to do for each ball out of 20 that didn't make it to the target. Ex: Run one length of the court for every ball missed.
As a side note; I certainly don't recommend motivations like this to be as a form of punishment' to a player. Delivered in the right environment these activities can form part of a fun practice session. Tough work, yes, but still fun.
