Why Voodoo Squidoodles?

Why not! I love Squidoo. I love to doodle. I love Voodoo. I am an artist. Put them all together and what do you have? That's right, Voodoo Squiddoodles!

Here's my latest squidoodle, a good luck talisman for the new year. Scroll down for a larger view.

Squid Hamsa

Good Luck Talisman for the new year

The hamsa is usually called the "Hand of God", but may also be called by other names such as the Hand of Squidoo.

Hamsas are popular as a symbol used in amulets, charms and jewelry to protect against the "evil eye." Among some Jews, particularly Kabbalists, fish are considered to be a symbol of good luck, so many hamsas are also decorated with fish (or squid) images. Hamsas are incorporated in wall plaques, mobiles, keychains and necklaces. Sometimes they are inscribed with Hebrew prayers, such as the Sh'ma, the Birkat HaBayit (Blessing for the Home), or the Tefilat HaDerech (Traveler's Prayer). Hamsas may be displayed in either direction, up or down according to the taste or decoration associated with the Hamsa.

PeopleAll Over the World are Doodling

Doodling is a universal art form. Anyone who can hold a pencil has doodled something at some point in their lives. However, some are taking doodling to new heights, elevating it as a legitimate art form. For example, a group of Filipino graphic artists promote their creativity through doodling. This art form takes hold as creative decor for restaurants, galleries and office spaces.

Squid Art: On the Subway by Hannah Moore

Definitely not one of my quirky voodoosquidoodles, but great squid art nonetheless. This piece is by the artist Hannah Moore described as "Oil on masonite. It's a squid riding the subway."

Love it! Check out more of her art here.

Squid Eye

According to the Urban Dictionary, a Squid Eye is someone who's eye is messed up and you can't tell which way or what they are looking at.

Squid Eyes act as talismans that brings good luck and prosperity to all. They are usually hung in a prominent position in ones home or place of business, visible to all who enter. These whimsical squid eyes pay tribute to Change Islands, Newfoundland, home of the "Squid Jiggin' Ground". Written at the age of 15 (1928) by A.R. Scammell while fishing with his father, the "Squid Jiggin' Ground" is one of the most popular Canadian folk songs of all time. Of an interesting note, the eyes of the giant squid the "Kraken", is the largest of all the animal kingdom, with eyes that grow to 25 cm (10 in.) in diameter รข%u20AC" about the size of a volleyball.
