Mitsubish Galant VR-4 and Legnum VR-4 (Galant estate)
This page is discussing the 8th generation Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 and Legnum VR-4. The Legnum is the estate version of the Galant. Seems odd that Mitsubishi chose to give it a different name.

About the VR-4
Built by Ralliart Japan between 1996 and 2002, the Galant and Legnum VR-4 were based on the Galant V6.
Twin turbos were fitted increasing power from 160 bhp up to 280PS.
A four-wheel-drive system based on that of the Lancer Evo was incorporated.
Fitted with either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission, the latter being the INVECS-ll adaptive intelligent box with a Tiptronic-style shift.
Chosen to receive the "1996-97 Car of the Year Japan" award, the most prestigious automotive award in Japan.
In 1998 Mitsubishi gave the Galant and Legnum a facelift.
The main changes were a change to the front foglights and an increase to the power of automatic models up to 280PS matching the manual models.

Availability
All Galant and Legnum VR-4s are imports with less than 200 known to have been sold through the Mitsubishi dealer network for approx £29,000.
These were imported into the UK by Ralliart UK (separate from the Ralliart rally team), were fully converted to meet UK regulations and had additional work carried out such as extra anti-corrosion treatment.
There are a number of importers still bringing these into the UK and there will normally be some available on eBay. You can also check Club VR-4 to see if there is a member selling their car.

Servicing
Some jobs require specialised equipment which not all Mitsubishi dealers have. If you want to use a Mitsubishi dealer look for a dealership that services Evos.
