The Volkswagen Scene

Ranked #8,706 in Cars, #0 overall

The Volkswagen Scene in Cornwall - Make like minded friends and have fun for all the family.

Over the past few years I have become very involved in the Volkswagen Scene here in my home County of Cornwall, England.

Currently I am a Committee Member, having also been the Vice Chairman and Chairman in past years, of the Cornwall Volkswagen Owners Club and have amassed a collection of Volkswagens with chassis ranging from 1955 [A GP-LDV Beach Buggy] to a 2001 Bora V6 4Motion. Unusually therefore I have a foot in both camps so to speak as I have a passion for both air cooled and water cooled vehicles when mostly enthusiasts are interested in one or the other, oh well, that is the way I am.

The scene is very family orientated and, for example on16/2/08 we had a social gathering at a local 10 pin bowling alley. Had 4 lanes in use with as many juniors bowling as adults. That is what makes the Volkswagen Show events so special, parents are all relaxed as they feel relaxed as they know a straying child will be swiftly gathered up and returned to the fold by the next door group of enthusiasts from another Club/Area who are equally relaxed as the kids all play together in a secure environment. Why can it not be like that everywhere.

Last weekend we organised a visit to The Eden Project so that we could take advantage of a special deal for local folk of signing up as a member for 12 months for £5.00. This will give us a meeting place for future events too. Two groups cruised to Eden and in total around 20 vehicles attended. Split Screen Vans,Bays, T25's,Beetles, T4 my Corrado and Freelander! oh well we will let hi off this time.

A few hours exploring the two huge biomes containing a tropical rain forest and a Mediterranean climate zone it was off to ice skating for some whilst others visited the education centre.
Next event we will all enjoy is the 'mince pie cruise, to Falmouth on the 14th December followed closely by our annual dinner and dance at Porth,Newquay on the evening of Dec 19th.

Never ending social whirl this VW scene don't you know.

My Websites

Please have a look at my other sites

My mail website relating to the Volkswagen Scene is to be found at the following address:-

http://www.vwaddiction.co.uk

You will see a good representation of the quality of photograph I have become able to produce in the 30 years plus I have enjoyed the hobby of photography.

Also take a look at:

http://www.g4usb.com

This is the site describing my two main hobbies, hope you like the sunset header. I took this picture a while back and waited until the suns rays poked through the cloud. The monument is at Carn Brea near Redruth in Cornwall and honours the Bassett family who owned local tin mines and became very wealthy as a result.

Then there is my info site Blog concerning Amateur Radio and Volkswagen Scene in the County of Cornwall
I use this site to display details of the Club activities that are forthcoming. See this at:

I have an Amazon Book store too. So if you are looking to ourchase a book be it fiction or reference you are seeking take a look here, this can be found at the following address:

and a Computer/digital camera needs store. here you can buy from a laptop to a memory stick or a program or an instruction book or even a digital camera and the cards to store the pictures on. A veritable Aladin's cave

Why 'one and all' I hear you say. You must not be of Cornish origin. One and All is the County Motto found on the Coat of Arms of the Cornwall County Council [Local Government]

The crest can be seen above and depicts two of Cornwall's major industries, a fisherman and a miner. Fishing has declined to very low level thanks in the main to foreign over fishing and the quotas that now apply and Mining ceased a while back now but, one mine just a short distance from me at South Crofty is set to commence work again in the near future.

G4USB, Norman Pascoe's Flickr Albums

An assortment of my Flickr albums from VW shows around the UK

As a keen photographer I owned my first single lens reflex system capable of attaching a variety of lenses about 35 years ago [how long? gosh i'm getting old!] and at the time my main subjects were aircraft and local motor sport ranging from sprints an hill climbs to autocross and rallying.

Over the years I believe my ability has improved but I have never seen photography as a route to making my living. Over the years I have been roped in to being the photographer at a few of my friends weddings and believe me you certainly don't enjoy the day or the weeks afterwards explaining that the colour they chose for the bridesmaids dresses, an iridescent green was bound to be seen differently by the emulsion of the film in any camera. Only to be vindicated later as their friends mostly had the same problem with their photos too! Photographing people for money a certain no no. So back to my pictures of machines, phew!

Below is a sideshow of photographs taken at the Cornwall VW Owners Club 3 day Jamboree in August 2007. I have kind of become the honorary 'official' photographer. The show starts with a few pictures of Radio Amateur friends as the Cornish Radio Amateur Club now mount a demonstration station each year at the event to promote my other main hobby, Amateur Radio. I think the photos give an overall picture of the event/.scene with children in abundance some lovely cars some really ratty cars, friendly traders, a good bar, good entertainment and smiles all around.

Vanwest May 2006 - the first Vanwest

With a bias towards the display of the Cornwall VW Owners Club

This was the first show held at the site of the
Haynes Museum at Sparkwell. The event went off really
well and the weather was kind and sun was the order of the weekend.

2007 was not so fortunate however. Although not present myself I understand it was more like Glastonbury really, a muddy puddle. Shame but everyone still enjoyed themselves.

A Day Visit to Duxford Air and Land Warfare Museums

Aircraft & Military vehicles seen at Duxford, Cambridgeshire

I spent a very enjoyable day accompanied by my friend Dennis, another Radio Amateur, G7AGZ. We flew from Newquay to Stanstead and collected our Fiesta hire car and proceeded to Duxford a couple of exits further up the motorway.

A full day was spent touring the various exhibits. The English museum, the United States Museum and the Land Warfarw Museum.

You will also see a picture of the permanent Amateur Radio Stration shack belonging to GB2IWM the call shows it is an exhibition, or special event station as it begins 'GB' the two designated licensed for all band communication and the IWM stands for Imperial War Museum.

Cornwall VW Owners Club - Swapmeet 2008

An annual event held on Easter Saturday

This year the event was marred by a bitter easterly wind and occasional flurries of snow! In 2007 it was so hot many went home with sunburn, what a difference a year makes, although, Easter was very easrly this year of course and that did not help.

My VW addiction site
This is my main site concerning the Volkswagen.
There are pages centred around each VW type/class such as type1 type2 etc. I have included some information within each section but do not claim to be the best VW historian on the planet and apologise in advance for any technical errors made.

I am working on some pictorial sideshows with information and a musical backing track. These will be in a .pdf format and can be watched as a sideshow with music or viewed as a .pdf once the sideshow has finished so that the narrative can be more easily read and the pictures, all high resolution, can be examined more closely.

The first two that will be available are for the Schwimmwagen and the Kubelwagen and feature a picture walk around of vehicles that were in attendance at the 2007 Bad Camberg Show in Germany

I wonder if you knew that?

Are you: Air Cooled, Water Cooled or Both

Lets get the discussion flowing, are you an out and out air or water cooled VW enthusiast or do you appreciate both

I have an interest on both the older classic air cooled VW machinery and the more modern water cooled variety from the 1970's onwards.
Sometimes I believe that leaves me out in the cold to some degree when I turn up in say my G40. If in my GT Beetle or GP-LDV Buggy its all mates together. Don't understand this really just looking for observations.
