Grand Master Hironori Ohtsuka (1893-1982) founded Wado Ryu Karate by merging aspects of Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu with Okinawan Karate. While it's techniques look very much like Karate, the underlying principles were taken from Shindo Yoshin Ryu. The key to Wado Ryu is taisabaki, which translated from Japanese means body management or body manipulation. This is achieved by moving along rather than moving against an attack in order to take up a position that will give one an advantage on an opponent. Wado Ryu can be broken down like this:
