Women Who Inspire This WAHM
In 2007, I was blessed to realize the dream of becoming a WAHM (the initials for a Work At Home Mom). I left the stresses of schedules, daycare and the like behind to be self employed in a flexible business that creates more balance between family and finances. As time has gone on, I have branched out into several things that bring income into the household while still being able to be home with my son. I couldn't ask for more!
Some days it's more of a challenge than others and while nothing in life is absolutely perfect, this has been the culmination of a dream for me. I love being a WAHM and wouldn't have it any other way!
There are so many stories of famous women who defied the odds, shattered the glass ceiling in their own industry, broke down barriers and challenges for women and triumphed. These stories inspire me as a WAHM!
This is my tribute to some of the ladies who inspire ME, why they do and what I like about them.
I also am a confirmed Quote Fanatic so I will also share some of my favorite inspiring quotes from each lady.

WHY I LIKE HER:
Mary Kay Ash personifies "Find A Way Or Make One". When she was experiencing mediocre success in the business world and being passed over in favor of promoting men, Mary Kay Ash took a big risk and began her own company. In the days when she did so women entrepreneurs were not the norm. She shattered the glass ceiling with her "little company" which became Mary Kay Cosmetics and Mary Kay Inc. It's now a large, well-known Direct Sales company with a large distributor force.
Her teachings and beliefs were always centered around "God first, family second and career third". Doesn't that pretty well describe most of a AHM's reasons for being a WAHM?
Mary Kay Ash was a positive thinker and believed in the spirit of women. Her charities through the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation which works with causes affecting women like domestic abuse and female specific cancer charities.

Mary Engelbreit - Artist, Entrepreneur, Owner of Mary Engelbreit Studios

WHY I LIKE HER:
My reasons on Mary Engelbreit are two-fold.
First, I just like her line of products. They are charming, unique and to me she's among some of the top home mavens like Martha Stewart or Laura Ashley but yet has her own unique style. I am actually a collector and retailer of Mary's products because I like them so much.
Second, Mary Engelbreit personifies what a WAHM is about. Her business began as a home business with a vision. She followed her dream to be a children's book illustrator but was told in the begining she would never make it as one. Yet she persevered and went on undeterred. She pursued her art and financed her dream of book illustration and publishing with her own company.
Mary Engelbreit's works and book titles number over 150 books. Her artwork is featured on numerous items and sales from the Mary Engelbreit Store are in excess of $1 billion. She also published a popular magazine for years under her own name. Tenacious pursuit of her dreams makes me admire and respect Mary Engelbreit.

As a footnote I believe the themes of Mary's works and greeting cards speak volumes as to the person she is and why she is special. She is also a believer in positive thinking and the spirit of women. I especially like her Princess Of Quite-A-Lot theme and it describes me. I have many diverse interests and things that make me who I am. I think that is true of most multitasking WAHMs out there!

WHY I LIKE HER:
Maya Angelou is known best as "The Renaissance Woman". Her writings and quotes are always inspirational. Maya Angelou made her way in the world as an African-American woman who today is one of the most quoted women on the planet.
She was involved with the American Civil Rights Movement and is speaks out for women's causes and against racism. Maya Angelou's life tells the story of a woman who is ever-evolving yet true to herself, her ideals and her dreams. In my eyes that spirit portrays the spirit I see in the WAHMs of today.

WHY I LIKE HER:Debbi Fields took a kitchen table dream and brought it into reality! As a young 20 year old housewife with no business experience and limited financial resources, her determination outweighed the obstacles against her.
Debbi Fields' passion for what she wanted to do and achieve persevered as she followed a business concept that others told her was crazy and would fail. In the true WAHM spirit, she was undeterred by the naysayers and went about making her mark on the world as Mrs. Fields.

WHY I LIKE HER:Jan Ruhe has written some awesome books for anyone in the Direct Sales and Network Marketing industries.
Jan Ruhe has been there, done that. She has walked the walk and talked the talk. Her experience in the field took her from a young, inexperienced single mother to a self-made millionaire with her company.
Today she enjoys speaking and traveling where she conducts seminars and shares her methods, motivation and story with others.

Judy Schachner is a popular children's book author and illustrator. Her most popular book series is about Skippyjon Jones, a fictional Siamese cat with large, unproportional ears that makes him look more like a Chihuahua. On my Skippyjon Jones creation, I share Judy Schachner's story. It's one of dreams from her childhood. She grew up shy and the child of a very ill mother. Artwork became a form of expression for her and thru it she created a dream world where mothers never got ill and teachers never criticized her non-participation in the classroom. Judy Schachner was a dreamer from her earliest days. I love that!
Judy Schachner was a Hallmark greeting card illustrator who became bored with her job over time. Inspired by her husband, Bob, she began to pursue her dreams as a children's book illustrator.
Motherhood changed Judy Schachner's life similar as to how it changes the lives of many mothers. Becoming a mother becomes the impetus for wanting to be a WAHM (Work At Home Mom). Judy pursued her dream to become a children's book illustrator and author because she loved motherhood and felt it was her first, and most important job.
