Working from home gives you freedom to enjoy hobbies
Prior to 2005, I was a work-aholic in a fast paced Corporate world. The devastating meeting with the boss right before the holiday season was a blow to my ego . I was downsized. I received a pink slip. I was unemployed and my career goals halted by outsourcing and expansion of business outside of the U.S. Suddenly I didnt know what I would do with all the time on my hands, among other fears that I felt.
I was angry but the stronger feeling was boredom. I didnt have anywhere to go - I didnt have to take my suits to the cleaners; I didnt have to call ahead for reservations for my client meetings at the restaurant; I didnt have to book airline tickets or hotels; I didnt even have to have my vehicle tuned up because I wasnt driving very much. I was just home and it was an unfamiliar existance.
So I wandered out into my yard - there were so many weeds and I had rarely attended to it in the previous years that I worked full time. The trees needed pruning, the bulbs needed to be separated, the morning glories had grown way up onto the garage and were covering the gutters and there was a fence in the back that had fallen down in last year's storm and was in desparate need of repair.I discovered a world in my own backyard that was time-consuming, rewarding and personal.
I'm working on posting an online slide presentation of my garden. There was transformation that has occurred in the last few years - both in my garden and in me. I didnt even expect that I would take up video photography and learn new skills while I was 'unemployed'! I've met and networked with other gardeners, I've joined garden clubs, I joined meetup.com and I have lots of places to go but my favorite place to go is in my own yard. This past summer, I took some of my garden overflow & flower bed extras to the local flea market, setup a table and recovered enough money to make a profit PLUS I met more people who love gardening. And now I'm blogging about my passion for gardening!
I never had time for gardening when I was working - the yard work was always a chore and I didnt exactly enjoy it. Thankfully, I decided to change my career goals and work from home. I am passionate about spending quality thyme in my garden.
