What is Wajas?

Wajas is a website for breeding virtual pets known as Wajas, which apparently is the Cherokee word for Wolf.

Unlike most other virtual pet game sites, on Wajas.Com  you are not given your first Waja - you need to either play games and earn money to buy one, have one given to you by a generous player, or win one in a contest or game.

All of the real issues involved with animal breeding show up at Wajas, including inbreeding and sport offspring.

In addition, each player can open a Wajas store, in which they can sell (for Wajas Credit, the virtual currency used on the site) the various items they gain around the waja world.

Unlike NeoPets, Wajas is not aimed primarily at the under 12 set. Most of its members appear to be in their later teens or adult years.

There are a few enjoyable games to play, as well as forums to participate in, items to "purchase", and friendships to be made.

I think that Wajas gives you more for less.

Neopets Wajas
No sub-breeeds sub-breeds
expensive upgrade reasonable upgrade
better rp forum inactive rp forum
boring after a while not so boring

Eri says:

Wajas. There are less strict rules, and more room for fun and imagination.

Meep says:

Wajas is way better than Neopets. I got tired of Neo very quickly but not Wajas. Neo is very limited, only 4 pets and every pet has the same colors, paintbrush or not. Wajas, there are thousands of combos so no two look exactly the same.....usually. And you can even have pups! Overall Wajas is much more fun and addicting than Neopets.

someone says:

I really like Wajas, its more real to life, when you breed a dog, cat or any animal, it depends on its genes and certain things get carried i.e. coat color and certain "Mutations" in the Wajas world (mutations are like extra things in your wajas like a mane, leg feathers ect.)

Shea Semler says:

I would usually say wajas, but they're changing alot of things and ruining it for me. I guess I'm going back to neopets

Mombo says:

Wajas' coders are unreliable and irresponsible, so is the admin. If you tell them about a SERIOUS flaw they will shrug you off. Then when you prove it is real they BAN you. That's why the "Dice Game" is down at the moment.

Waja Breeding 101 - abridged
A good beginner's guide to Waja breeding.

Waja Breeding

In order to breed, you need a female waja, and a male waja. You don't necessarily have to own both, as many players put their males up for stud and their females up for reverse breeding, for fees (paid in WC) ranging from very low to astronomical.

Wajas are pregnant for five days.

The growth cycle of the waja is a three stage deal. First from birth to four days, during which time you can't tell what color your waja is. You also cannot see how their markings and mutations look.

At five days old, your pup becomes an adolescent and its color will show. It's markings and mutations will still be unseeable, though. At twelve days you can see your pup's final appearance, but it will not reach maturity until its 20th day, at which point it can begin to breed. To hurry this process, you can purchase an age pear which will age your pup right up to 20 days old.

Males are very rare! You can feed your female waja "Male Pears" to increase her odds of whelping males, or you can get a "gender pear" and change a female into a male by feeding it to her.

A waja's four breeding statistics are MU (Mutation), MG (Male Gene), LQ (Litter Quantity), and In% (Inbreeding Percentage). These four statistics are displayed in numbers from 0 to 100, and pass on to the pups of the waja just like markings do. Each statistic affects a different thing about the offspring of the waja:

* MU increases the chances of the pups receiving a random mutation or marking at birth.

* MG increases the chances of a female waja giving birth to a male pup.

* LQ increases the chances of a female waja giving birth to twins or even triplets.

* In% is considered a negative trait in a waja, though it does not affect them in any way except for passing on the In% to its offspring: In% is gained if a waja is bred to a waja that is somewhat closely related to it. The closer the relation, the higher the In% on the resulting pup.

More on breeding

There are nine breeds of Waja. All nine breeds can have any of the markings and mutations available, these are not breed specific, although they often look quite different on different breeds.

* Normal: The most common breed on the site, Normals look wolfish or huskylike.

* African: Resembles African Wild dogs, but with two tails!

* Plushie: These little sweeties look like stuffed animals.

* Divine: These large wajas are often compared to dragons or lions, and have a distinct Oriental feel to them. Divines have long whiskers, multiple horns, and large bird wings as a default: this breed is one of the most sought-after on the site, and breeding one is very expensive.

* Water: These wajas are said to resemble eels or seals. They have elongated bodies, short forelegs, no hind legs, and a large fin at the end of their tail.

* Corsie: A short-legged, floppy-eared waja, this breed resembles a small dog or even a corgi more than a wolf.

* Egyptian: Just like corsies, this breed resembles a dog more than a wolf. This breed is based on a greyhound-type dog, with long, slender legs and pointed ears (a possible reference to the Egyptian god Anubis, considering the name of the breed).

* Earth: These large wajas mostly resemble a mixture of the normal and corsie breeds, but they have hooves instead of paws. They were released for purchase during December 2006, for three days only. New earths are now only available through breeding.

* Fire: The latest breed added to Wajas. This waja has fiery paws and three tails. The Fire Waja is also the third elemental waja and was released April 20, 2007.

All breeds can be crossbred freely, though some players prefer to breed wajas with specimens of the same breed only. The breed of a pup is that of either of its parents, selected at random. Certain breeds are more difficult to breed than others: divines, for example, very rarely produce divine pups with a breed other than another divine.
