Waldorf Play Philosophy
Keep it simple and keep it fun
I love Waldorf inspired toys! I love the fact that they encourage the imagination of the child and challenge them to create a world of their making.Dolls:
A Waldorf doll is unique in that it is handmade with lots of care and love. It's facial features are simple so the child can still use their imagination to create whatever emotion they need. It is soft and made of natural materials like wool and cotton instead of plastic.
Blocks:
Blocks are the foundation for many homes, forts, forests, castles, trains, and more. They don't need to be conventional pre-cut squares, rectangles, or triangles. Tree Blocks which are well known in Waldorf Education are simply just trees cut into circles - tall and short.
Stories:
What is Play without stories? Waldorf preschools incorporate puppets, story time, and legends into everyday play. Some stories you might include are Hans and the Wonderful Flower by Carolyn S. BAiley, Aesops Fables by Milo Winter, Snow White and Red Rose from the The Blue Fairy Book by Andrew Lang.
Instead of reading a story to a child, tell it. Don't overexaggerate but just simply tell the story. Use props such as puppets and silks or other items onhand-the closer to nature the better. Let the child's imagination grab hold of the story so it can continue once you are finished.
Silks:
Silks are a light colorful accessory to incorporate into your child's play. They can be used to build a fort, made into a doll, as a headdress for a princess, a cape for a knight or super hero, a river to cross, or as a dragon to slay. Let your child be the creator.
Some people like to have a playstand that is used to create a little home and/or fort. You can buy them already made for about $100 - $250. If you or someone you know is handy you can build your own play stand.
Home Play:
This is by far my favorite type of play. I enjoy having my boys along side me cutting vegetables, sorting laundry, baking bread, or sweeping the floors. This is not only a help to me but to them as well. They learn life as we live it. They are not a problem to entertain but to involve in the chores of everyday life.

Magic Fairy Wand
Make Your Own From Felt
My boys and I love to play magician. Magic and spells make up a majority of their playtime. I love watching them come up with all sorts of fun and imaginative things. One day as I was watching them play I decided to make them a wand. We took out our magic box of goodies and proceeded to make a wand. After many attempts we came up with one that we really enjoy. We make these for ourselves as well as for our friends.
Hope you enjoy making these as much as we do.

Enjoy your new Magical Wand.
