Why I love Wallace
My obsession with Wallace and Gromit started about 12 years ago when I was in middle school. My art teacher was a big fan so the entire class watched A Grand Day Out and The Wrong Trousers. I've been hooked ever since. I think part of my interest in sculpting comes from seeing Wallace and Gromit, I've even tried my hand at stop motion animation (though with not much success).I think part of the reason why I like the animations so much is that Wallace is an inventor and as a creative person myself that immediately draws my interest, though I hope my creations are a bit more successful than Wallace's.
I'm anxiously awaiting the new Wallace and Gromit short that is supposed to start filming January 2008 called Trouble at Mill.
Who are Wallace and Gromit
Wallace and Gromit are the main characters in a series consisting of four British animated short films and a feature-length film by Nick Park of Aardman Animations. All the characters are made from moulded plasticine modelling clay on metal armatures, and filmed with stop motion clay animation.
Wallace, an absent-minded inventor from Wigan, Lancashire, is a cheese enthusiast (especially for Wensleydale cheese). His companion, Gromit, is an anthropomorphic intelligent dog. Wallace is voiced by veteran actor Peter Sallis; Gromit remains silent, communicating only through facial expressions and body language.
Due to their popularity, the characters have been called positive international icons of modern British culture and of the British people. BBC News has called them "some of the best-known and best-loved stars to come out of the UK."[http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4295048.stm Wallace and Gromit's cracking careers]. By Ian Youngs. BBC News. Published 10 October 2005. Icons has stated that they have done "more to improve the image of the English world-wide than any officially appointed ambassadors".Wallace and Gromit. icons.org.uk. Retrieved 7 June 2009. The short films The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave and their full length feature Category: Wallace & Gromit - : The Curse of the Were-Rabbit|The Curse of the Were Rabbit received Academy Awards. The first short film A Grand Day Out, was nominated for the Academy Award for Animated Short Film, but lost to Creature Comforts, another animated creation of Nick Park.
The two characters appear in the monthly BeanoMAX Comic. This eventually replaced their original comic published by Titan Magazines. They are also heavily featured in the unofficial (though supported by Aardman Animations) free, Monthly, online magazine 'Aardmag'. 62 West Wallaby Street fansite. Wallace's Recommended Cheese
Wensleydale cheese is a cheese produced in the town of Hawes in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, England. There are five main types:
*Real Yorkshire Wensleydale is usually shaped into a variety of weights in a range of moulds from a small flat disc known as a "truckle" that is highly pressed, and preserved in wax, to several larger cheeses—it is a mild cheese with an acidic-honeyed flavour
*Mature Wensleydale is a harder, more highly-flavoured version of the Real Yorkshire Wensleydale and highly prized by cheese connoisseurs
*Extra Mature Wensleydale the strongest Wensleydale cheese, matured for nine months
*Blue Wensleydale has blue veins and is produced in range of sizes. It is highly flavoured but less salty than the classic British blue Stilton
*Oak Smoked Wensleydale is cold smoked to produce a cheese with a special tang and texture
