World and setting

WAR is based on Games Workshop's popular Warhammer Fantasy world. It's all about the might and magic: arms and deadly spells rule this world of constant battle and epic duels. Enter WAR and achieve your glory as a hero of your race!

RvR battles

Realm versus Realm combat is the base of this game. You can join the Armies of Order (High Elves, Empire or Dwarves) or the Armies of Destruction (Greenskin, Chaos and Dark Elves). These are probably all familiar to a true fan of Warhammer! It is possible to fight for your own Army, as well as your allies, right since the start of the game. The Tiers system will make sure you will engage in combat with players around your level. Invade your enemies, crush them, and then pillage their capital city!

The RvR includes four levels of combat: Skirmishes (random PvP encounters), Battlefields (objective-based fights), Scenarios (instanced, point-based fights which include NPCs), and of course Campaigns - the massive assaults on enemy cities.

Combat system

Warhammer Online has collision detection system (between enemies only) which adds a new element of strategy into the game. "Tank" characters are actually be able to protect their more squishy friends with their shields.

WAR also introduces player Tactics (acquired powers that you equip before battle) as well as Morale Skills (these activate and grow stronger when you are winning the battle), which make strategy even more important, and the battles more fun and dynamic.

PvE

Even though RvR is the main focus of the game, there is plenty of PvE content - enough, in fact, to level up without ever getting into a PvP encounter, if one wishes so. WAR has quests related to your armies' efforts, such as public quests, conflict quests and even the epic quest for the Tome of Knowledge. Some of these quests are branching, meaning you can actually choose the outcome, similarly to how it works in single-player RPGs!

There is a detailed armor customization system in place. Your characters can advance in many different ways including Tactics, Morale, Tomes, and other.
